Position Summary
This position reports to the Manager of Parking and Transportation Resources.

The primary function of the role is to complete parking lot monitoring and enforcement of Laurier owned and leased properties on the Waterloo campus and Kitchener location.

The incumbent will be required to utilize department specific software and equipment to monitor parking areas and issue violations in coordination with other parking personnel.

Patrol of the parking areas will primarily be completed utilizing a vehicle equipped with license plate recognition technology.

The incumbent will be expected to be well versed on campus parking rules and regulations to complete their work and respond to campus inquiries.

The incumbent will be required to complete coin collection from paid parking areas and support campus events.

Accountabilities

Enforcement and Operational support

  • Monitor Laurier owned and leased parking lots either on foot or utilizing the Parking & Transportation vehicle equipped with license plate recognition (LPR) technology.
  • Work in coordination with Parking Operations Supervisor and student enforcement staff to enforce University Parking Regulations and issue violations where appropriate utilizing electronic enforcement equipment
  • Follow assigned patrol routes for parking lot monitoring/enforcement and track lot utilization/inventory data
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of department policies and parking locations
  • Identify vehicles with outstanding accounts greater than $150 and notify Parking Operations Supervisor
  • Provide support as required to assist in the adjudication of parking violation appeals
  • Provide general parking and wayfinding information and assistance to the campus community
  • Provide support for campus events and activities; including but not limited to Convocation, Orientation week, and Conferences

Equipment Monitoring & Coin Collection

  • Responsible to ensure that department vehicle is adequately charged and complete the required weekly vehicle inspections as per the Fleet Management protocol
  • Monitor and maintain paid parking equipment including meters/Pay & display machines and reporting any maintenance and service issues to the Parking Operations Supervisor
  • Routine collection of coin/cashboxes from the pay & display stations
  • Routine collection of coin from meter locations
  • Provide onsite support to external contractors completing repairs and maintenance of parking related equipment.
  • Monitor parking areas for damaged or missing parking related signs and report to Parking Operations Supervisor
  • Monitor parking lots for safety concerns and report to the Parking Operations Supervisor when maintenance is required.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma and minimum one year post secondary education;
  • Experience in parking or security related field would be an asset
  • Maintain a valid G driver license and provide a driver abstract; employee must qualify as and Authorized Driver under the universities Fleet and Driver Management protocol
  • Must be willing to work shifts including evenings
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication and negotiating skills
  • Proven ability to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone and as part of a team
