Amgen British Columbia, located in Burnaby, is a research center of excellence focused primarily on the use of innovative platform technology for the discovery of therapeutic antibodies.

We are seeking dedicated, highly motivated students to join our core groups to learn and use skills in the field of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, and bioinformatics.

You will join one of the functional teams at Amgen British Columbia, partnering closely with a supervisor and contribute to projects that could potentially have a direct impact on human health.


Essential Functions:

  • Participate in the development of novel experiments and methods.
  • Use advanced fitforpurpose laboratory instruments and systems.
  • Application of the knowledge from researching literature to experiments.
  • Experimental design, execution, and data analysis/documentation.
  • Join one of the functional teams at Amgen British Columbia:
  • Discovery Protein Science: expertise in protein design, production and characterization for therapeutic discovery
  • Single-Domain Discovery and Immunization: execution of immunization strategies and discovery of multispecific therapeutics.
  • Antibody Discovery and Screening: antibody discovery by in vivo and in vitro platforms and High throughput screening technologies.
  • In Vitro Pharmacology: development and execution of purposebuilt assays to identify molecules with desired function and characteristics.
  • Experimental Immunology: building artificial immune systems and in vitro / in vivo immune models for predicting immune responses
  • Synthetic Immunoengineering: understanding and manipulating the immune system by combining chemical biology, protein engineering, and immunology

The highly motivated individual we seek is a collaborative team player with these qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program following the potential internship or coop assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree concentration(s) in Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Able to work for two consecutive four month terms
  • General knowledge of cell biology, immunology, biochemistry & molecular biology
  • Previous lab experience, completion of previous coop term(s), or internship experience
  • High attention to detail and ability to comply with written procedures
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational, record keeping and time management skills
