Career Opportunity:


CanOps is seeking an Information Technology Technical Coordinator for the Provincial Emergency Communications Center with experience in the Public Safety sector.

The position will primarily be office based, with an expectation that field work may be required from time to time.

This is a permanent fulltime position out of our Prince Albert location.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in peer working groups with key stakeholders, vendors and other technical resources to identify technology streams that could positively affect CanOps in operational or technical delivery.
  • Support or train personnel responsible for systems and networks and provide advice on the most suitable IT choices.
  • Monitor system and network performance and organize maintenance activities (e.g. backups).
  • Organize troubleshooting٫ repairs and data restoration.
  • Maintain licenses and upgrade schedules.
  • Work together with other professionals to maintain standards and functionality.
  • Assisting technical managers to create and share work plans and timelines.
  • Help assess current technological trends and determine organization/agency needs in order to lead the ongoing introduction of new technology and processes.
  • Evaluate existing systems and provides strategic plans for upgrades to hardware, software, operating systems, and other areas.
  • Reviewing project costs and forecasts.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly project or task status updates to management as requested.
  • Act as 3rd level system technical support for all Branch projects including provincial CAD initiatives and other technical concerns.
  • Act as level 1, 2, or 3 technical support in the event of an unscheduled absence.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and other activities related to the effective operation of the Branch environment.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with contactors, consultants, government, municipal, corporate and private agencies.
  • Position will be part of the core project team when any project involves technology.
  • Prepare cost reports for management before a new system is created or an existing system is updated. This report will include cost estimates for systems solutions and implementation processes. Reports will also include cost benefit analysis and total cost of ownership over the lifecycle of a technology asset.
  • Be responsible for developing test plans and overseeing the testing of new systems, and coordinating with other teams or vendors on remediation of bugs or issues.
  • Work with Technical Services Manager to identify risks and develop a strategic plan to mitigate identified risks.
  • Work with all business lines to update and maintain their business continuity plan, including the operational and technical linkages.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly project or task status updates to management as requested.
  • Work with Technical Services Manager to identify roadblocks and risks during project planning.
  • Play a key role in managing new agency integration, work closely with the Operations Manager and Technical Services Team to collect user requirements and data, and plan integration and rollout of new functionality and equipment.
  • Make recommendations on policy changes/enhancements to management to improve system operation and efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • University Degree or Technical Diploma in Information Technology or Information Systems.
  • 10 Years Experience in Infrastructure Deployment, Administration and Maintenance, Network Security Planning and Implementation, and Procurement Protocols and Risk Management Mitigation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of common enterprise infrastructure systems, including operating systems, database systems, and all management tools.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

  • 8hour shift (with an Earned Day Off every 3 weeks)
