Job Title: Senior Security Engineer

Location: Candidate must be located in Canada or the USA. Our office is located in Toronto, ON, Canada, but the role is remote/hybrid/flexible.

Reports to: VP, Engineering, Product, Design, Security and IT

Position Overview:

Practice Better is a leading modern health and wellness management platform dedicated to providing innovative solutions for health professionals and their clients. We prioritize security and compliance to protect sensitive health data and ensure our platform meets stringent regulatory standards. We seek a highly skilled Senior Security Engineer to join our team and help us maintain and enhance our security posture.

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will design, implement, and manage security solutions to protect our infrastructure, applications, and data. This role requires a deep understanding of security principles, a hands-on approach to solving complex security challenges, the ability to collaborate with other teams to ensure our security objectives are met, and the ability to spearhead a culture of learning around security principles across the company.

We're counting on you to:

  • Design and implement robust security architectures and frameworks to protect Practice Better and That Clean Life's systems and data.
  • Conduct regular security assessments, including vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and risk assessments through tooling, and automation.
  • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor and work with the development team to remediate security findings
  • Work closely with the IT and development teams to integrate security into the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends, threats, and technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with external security vendors and partners to enhance our security capabilities.
  • Prepare and present regular security reports to senior management and other stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in a security engineering role.
  • Proven experience with security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, endpoint protection, and encryption.
  • Strong understanding of network security, cloud security (AWS), and application security.
  • Hands-on experience with security assessment tools (e.g., Nessus, Metasploit, Burp Suite).
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO

Good to Have

  • Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, OSCP, or similar are highly desirable.
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices and integrating security into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with threat modeling and risk management frameworks.

You will:

  • Own: The overall security posture of Practice Better's infrastructure, applications, and data.
  • Teach: Security best practices and principles to development, IT, and other relevant teams.
  • Learn: Emerging security threats, trends, and technologies to continually enhance our security measures.
  • Improve: Collaboration between security, development, and IT teams to foster a security-first culture.

Within:

  • 1 month you will: Complete onboarding and gain a thorough understanding of Practice Better's security policies, procedures, and current security posture.
  • 3 months you will: Implement initial improvements to the security infrastructure based on the findings from the initial review.
  • 6 months you will: Lead security audits and assessments to ensure ongoing compliance and identify areas for further improvement.
