Position summary

Reporting to the Director of the Animal Resources Division (ARD), the incumbent is responsible to ensure continuing compliance with the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) and other animal welfare regulatory organizations by recruiting and supervising staff, developing and implementing policies and procedures in related field of activities and ensuring the proper functioning of the Animal Ethics Review support, the Animal Care Training program, and the Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM) Program.

General Duties

  • Ensures all CCAC guidelines and policies are implemented in the Animal Care and Use Program and integrated in the Animal Resources Division's Standard Operating Procedures and policies,
  • Acts as a resource person and provides guidance and assistance to the investigators and Animal Resources Division's personnel on animal ethics and compliance.
  • Acts as a liaison with the CCAC and responsible in the communication of new CCAC guidelines and policies to the RI-MUHC scientific community and the Animal Resources Division staff, responsible to make sure CCAC assessment visits' recommendations are implemented and followedup.
  • Coordinates and participates in the PAM visits, maintains records, submits reports to PIs and Facility Animal Care Committees
  • Is a member of the Facility Animal Care Committees,
  • Ensures the proper functioning of the Animal Ethic Review support, the Animal Care Training program and the PAM Program and supervises personnel in these functions, plans and organizes work flow
  • Participates in various committee meetings internal and external
  • Acts as a local administrator/ user support for the Animal Management Software (AMS). Collects and compiles data and statistics, submits reports and makes recommendations to the Director of the Animal Resources Division
  • Performs any other duty as required.

Education / Experience

Education:
Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a relevant discipline, a Graduate diploma in a recognized management, administrative or scientific training Program is an asset

Work Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in the laboratory animal science field or in academic laboratory environment, experience in a leadership role or an equivalent combination of education and experience, experience in research compliance and/or quality control is an asset, knowledge of Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) Guidelines, provincial regulations and other applicable laws, regulations and guidelines governing laboratory animal care and use is an asset

Required Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of French and English,
  • Very good writing skills in French and English,
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Adobe Pro.
  • Takes initiative and is resourceful,
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities,
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of team with minimum supervision,
  • Attention to detail,
  • Ability to multitask,
  • Ability to display a high degree of discretion in dealing with confidential information,
  • Demonstrates good listening, good interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Diplomatic, discreet and demonstrates good judgement,
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and within constraints.
Additional information

Status:
Full-time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale:
Commensurate with education & work experience.

Work Shift:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,

Work Site:
Presence at Montreal General Hospital site but main Office at the Glen. Hybrid work arrangements - presence on site, however possibility of telecommuting on occasion
