SSi's mission is to provide high quality, high capacity and affordable broadband connectivity to remote or isolated First Nations communities.

Being the North's premier broadband and mobile wireless technology company, SSi has been providing Internet service to over 50 remote and underserved communities across the NWT and Nunavut since 2005.

Continuing its expansion, SSi is currently deploying and delivering mobile wireless broadband services across the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?


Reporting to the Director, Network Services, the Manager, Field Operations is a leader responsible for managing and designing strategies to drive the Field Operations team and achieve SSi's priorities.


The Manager, Field Operations will not only manage the implementation, installation, commissioning and maintenance of equipment on sites, but also support corporate values and objectives in health and safety, customer service, and efficiency.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor the field operations team to ensure the successful execution of all operational goals.
  • Build and execute a site maintenance plan and schedule that is dynamic and addresses changing priorities.
  • Ensure the scheduling of internal and contract field technical teams is optimally planned and executed and ensure technicians are always in the right place, at the right time, to meet project and service objectives.
  • Manage equipment and company assets at assigned sites.
  • Ensure that facilities and assets are properly maintained, sparing levels in accordance with the
plan and all tools and other necessities are in place and in workable condition.

  • Ensure the team adheres to all applicable Health & Safety and other regulatory requirements.
  • Design, and implement new training programs for Field Operations with a heavy emphasis on OH&S, certification and culture of safety.
  • Identify hazards to all internal field operations team members and contractor technicians, and authorize corrective action where necessary.
  • Prepare budget, and manage and maintain expenses in order to meet financial goals.
  • Complete site visits and safety inspections to ensure all service providers and employees adhere to Engineering (civil, structural and electrical) standards, processes and procedures, as well as all Federal and Local standards.
  • Monitor work in progress through review of work orders and monitor quality and safety of all installation, maintenance and repair work, including conducting onsite inspections and postconstruction audits, and generating monthly compliance reports.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for improvement and develop and update standard operating procedures for the field operations team.
  • Oversee contractor labour, including adhering to the scope of work and quality standards.
  • Drive performance of team members by mentoring, establishing individual goals, supporting
career development (including learning and development activities), and championing a collaborative team environment.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

  • Degree or certification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of civil, structural and electrical standards, processes and procedures, as well as all Federal labour standards, such as Occupational Health and Safety Compliance standards.
  • 15+ years of technical work experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in a managerial capacity, including formulating, planning, leading, and
controlling a complex, broad, and highly technical function.

  • Experience translating business needs to field service to drive the strategic agenda.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively deliver and understand information quickly and accurately.
  • Very good decisionmaking skills to act decisively and make bold, unbiased decisions at a strategic level.
  • Strong time management and organization skills to successfully handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Solid coaching and mentoring skills to sense the team member's development needs and bolster their abilities, as well as to create group synergy in pursuing collective goals.
  • Openness to change and adaptability in order to adjust to the demands of different situations.
  • Availability to travel as required and to participate in afterhours escalations.
