The City of Penticton's Wastewater Treatment Plant is in search of a highly motivated and progressive individual for the temporary (up to 4 months, with the possibility of extension) position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Labourer. The Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWWTP) is an industry leading facility that protects public health and the environment by treating wastewater from residences, schools, hospitals, businesses, and industries. The Plant also accepts wastewater from both private septic systems and the neighboring OK Falls wastewater treatment plant.
This facility is considered one of the most technologically advanced wastewater treatment facilities in North America. Our wastewater management re-use facility provides irrigation for parks, an 18-hole golf course, and generates compost for commercial sales. This is a unique opportunity where you will have a chance to gain real operations experience in a Level 4 Advanced Waste Water Treatment Plant facility.
Reporting to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor, the Wastewater Treatment Labourer assists the Wastewater Treatment Plant operations teams in performing operational and maintenance work to maintain effluent quality that meets or exceeds all compliance criteria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observation and basic operation of equipment at the AWWTP under the supervision of the certified operators.
- Performs grounds maintenance at wastewater treatment plant as required.
- Janitorial and plant cleaning as required.
Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
- Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work both independently and with a team.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort for prolonged periods of time.
- Knowledge of British Columbia regulations, operating permits, and City policies.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
Education, Training & Experience:
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License.
- (Preferred but not necessary) Enrolled in or graduated from a post-secondary water/wastewater specific program or achieved EOCP Operator in Training certification for wastewater treatment.
