Qualifications:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Strong creative, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Extensive computer skills.
  • Ability to adapt well to an open work environment.
  • Excellent leadership skills are mandatory. Human relations skills required to handle a variety of interactions with residents, families, staff, and the public.
  • Fully knowledgeable of the Nursing Home Act and regulations, Fixing the Longterm Care Act, Ontario Labour Relations Act, Employment Standard's Act, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Good mental and physical health.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Attends resident and family care conferences.
  • Assists with quality improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Ensures master team meetings are scheduled, agendas followed, and meeting minutes are documented in accordance with master team meeting calendar.
  • Responsible for all nursing, staff, and medical office filing.
  • Conducts all necessary nursing audits, including charts, etc. and makes sure they are completed on a regular basis in accordance with master audit calendar and ensures any findings are followed up on.
  • Acts as a backup for RAI
  • MDS.
  • Acts as an infection control liaison working closely with the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) team lead.
  • Acts as a responsive behaviors liaison by liaising with the home's psychogeriatric team, physicians, and staff. Follows up on any recommendations/decisions or required assessments made.
  • Assists with staff evaluations as needed and as directed by the Director of Care (DOC).
  • Places all nursing supply orders on a regular basis. Is fiscally responsible and accountable and able to maintain budget guidelines.
  • Supervises and monitors staff on the floor and reports to DOC.
  • Updates and keeps current on knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures as required by the home.
  • Deals courteously with staff, residents, residents' families, and visitors.
  • Ensures medical records are maintained according to policy and legislative requirements.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the staff development, quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control programs.
  • Team leader role pertaining to all staff education requirements at the direction of the DOC, Assistant Director of Care (ADOC), and the Administrator
  • Ensures staff involvement in fire and safety procedures and communicates to all staff, residents and families results of inspection reports and any follow up actions taken.
  • Organizes and arranges for resident admissions as directed by the DOC and ADOC.
  • Answers call bells and assists where necessary.
  • Serves and supervise at meals when available ensuring resident satisfaction.
  • Adheres to all established policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Supervises resident's personal hygiene and bathing as per schedule.
  • Assist residents with ambulation when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required by the DOC/ADOC/Administrator.
