About Good Shepherd


The work of Good Shepherd is based on a fundamental belief in providing hope and restoring dignity to the most vulnerable members of our community.

Our services include emergency food and clothing; daily hot meals; emergency shelters for men, youth, families, women and children; transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs.

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Men's Emergency Shelter.

  • Work collaboratively with diverse community services and stakeholders to ensure that all clients are provided with the resources and supports required for their safety and wellbeing
  • Be in direct client contact in all aspects of service necessary for the comfort and safety of individuals accessing emergency shelter services
  • Assist in identifying, supporting and referring access to appropriate support systems
  • Work directly with admission and supervision of the Emergency Shelter, the supervision of the food line and the distribution of clothing
  • Provide and utilize clientdirected, antioppression/antiracism and harm reduction frameworks with a thorough understanding of a range of issues impacting clients including homelessness, poverty, mental illness and substance use/abuse
  • Comfortable dealing with circumstances that include conflict resolution and deescalation of situations
  • Perform hourly safety and facility checks

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education and experience working with vulnerable individuals
  • Knowledge of area social service agencies and community resources
  • Demonstrated professionalism and excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
  • CPR Certificate (or willingness to be certified) will also be required

Must be available to work shift rotations including weekends on a relief basis
