We are currently looking for a Logistics Specialist, Technology Planning based out of St. Thomas, ON

Our mission has started. Volkswagen Group's largest cell factory in St. Thomas will carry out all battery activities – from processing raw materials to developing a unified Volkswagen battery to managing the European and North American gigafactories. Headquartered in Salzgitter, Germany, we are experiencing the transformation of mobility up close. Our goal is to contribute a positive impact to our global society, the environment, and the economy. To reach these goals we need your POWER

We are looking for a Logistics Specialist – Technology Planning, to plan and implement logistics technologies like AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicle), ASRS (Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems), or conveyors for the PowerCo SE facility in St. Thomas. Reporting temporarily to the CFO, you will support and contribute to the PowerCo SE logistics team to achieve the objectives of the logistics rollout project at the St. Thomas facility.

This is a temporary flex hybrid model requiring 2 days in the St. Thomas office, subject to change based on the needs and nature of this project. During certain phases of the build, a full-time onsite presence may be a requirement.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Plan, define, and implement PowerCo SE logistics processes and robust, resilient, and cost-effective technologies and solutions in the St. Thomas facility.
  • Suggest and define local adaptations to inbound logistics processes based on standards and concepts provided by PowerCo SE in Germany, continually improving for increased efficiency, and ensuring scalability.
  • Source and evaluate regional technology and solutions vendors, building and fostering strong working relationships.
  • Attend conferences, trade shows, and events to build relationships with suppliers and maintain knowledge of emerging industry trends.
  • Evaluate and monitor contracts to ensure that vendors adhere to contract terms and conditions and develop corrective action plans with vendors and employees in the event of unacceptable or defective products or services.
  • Prepare RFPs/RFQs for logistics technologies such as ASRS, AGV, or conveyor systems.
  • Conduct technical evaluation and negotiation of offers during the tendering process of the logistic equipment in collaboration with PowerCo SE purchasing and logistics teams.
  • Local tendering of forklifts, tugger trains, warehouse, and other relevant equipment
  • Coordinate RFQ/PO processes with finance and procurement teams
  • Prepare presentations and applications, e.g., for cash management/investment committees, or board meetings.
  • Plan and steer projects regarding the installation and ramp-up of the equipment
  • Collaborate closely with other departments within the St. Thomas facility, Volkswagen Group Canada, and PowerCo SE headquarters.
  • Miscellaneous logistics rollout-related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Logistics / Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years spent in a related logistics planning function, ideally within a large, global organization.
  • In-depth, proven experience in logistics technologies planning, ideally within a new facility or re-vamp
  • Proven knowledge of modern logistics technologies and solutions
  • Experience with vendor selection, evaluation, RFPs/RFQs, contract negotiations
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in an environment of shifting priorities, timelines, and occasional ambiguity.
  • A global mindset, with a customer driven approach and ability to build trust and relationships.
  • Experience in battery or battery cell logistics is considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel both within Canada and internationally up to ~ 20%
  • German language skills are considered an asset.
