Job Number:49666**Join a team in support of the City of Edmonton's Urban Planning and Economy Department Your role will be a trusted advisor to the Branch Manager, Development Services to implement development initiatives, deliver excellent customer service, and to work collaboratively with key stakeholders to foster innovation in the services that support the city's growth and development. You will be integral in the delivery of strategic/business planning, issues management, representing the Branch on corporate initiatives and projects and manage a variety of complex branch-wide programs.


As a key member of the Branch Manager's Office, this role is responsible for coordinating the activities of the branch such as council reports, project management and strategic planning.

This is a role that requires influence and will be providing leadership, research, analysis, monitoring and recommendations on a wide variety of issues primarily at the Branch level.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Organize and facilitate branch initiatives, and participate in the development of branch vision, mission, values strategies, long term planning, goals and action plans
  • Provide leadership and direction on branch operational processes and strategic planning processes, including business plans, briefings, and presentations
  • Represent the branch on departmental, corporate committees and branch teams
  • Collaborate across the branch and department to implement the vision and strategy of the branch
  • Provide leadership, research, analysis, monitoring and recommendations on a wide variety of issues primarily at branch and department levels
  • Review and edit Council and Committee reports for content and completeness, provide direction to staff in their preparation based on motions and inquiries from City Council
  • Provide information, expert advice and recommendations on behalf of the Branch Manager to support branch operations
  • Conceptualize and lead a wide variety of assigned projects which are complex, confidential and/or politically sensitive
  • Respond to adhoc requests for information, confidential advice and prepare ad hoc reports or briefings
  • Oversee processes related to branch personnel management and budgetrelated expenses branchwide personal changes, training activities, and approvals
  • Foster and maintain collaborative working relationships with clients, colleagues, staff and community

Qualifications:

  • University degree in a discipline related to Commerce, Public Administration, Communications, Leadership, or the Social Sciences
  • 5 years progressively responsible strategic and management experience
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fastpaced, large volume, deadlinedriven environment
  • Detailed oriented and organized
  • Experience in diverse areas such as political analysis, issues management, human resources, communications and project management
  • Ability to effectively transfer ideas, concepts and information into effective and efficient strategies
  • High political acumen with the ability to analyze sensitive issues and respond to or advise Branch Manager and other senior leaders as necessary
  • Proven knowledge and experience in business strategic planning and implementation
  • Expertise in project management, including project administration and multiple projects
  • Understanding and experience in the areas of business process mapping and improvement
  • Exceptional communication abilities, listening, presenting and writing
  • Proven ability to build positive work relationships and collaborate/negotiate effectively
  • Future focused and proactive approach to work including systems thinking
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate innovative plans and influence key decision makers
  • Ability to navigate effectively and efficiently in a dynamic, complex, and sometimesambiguous environment
  • Exercise good judgment and a measured approach to managing stress
  • Effective and efficient time management in a dynamic environment based on competing urgent, long term and important work demands
  • Possess advanced computer skills, including the Google Platform
