Who We Are


Community Land Trust Group of Societies (CLT) is a non-profit, social-purpose real estate developer whose purpose is to create, preserve and steward permanently affordable homes in diverse and mixed-income communities.

We are responsible for growing and preserving the stock of affordable homes for low and middle-income residents - including those who are marginalized and at risk.

Who We Are Looking For

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will:

  • Oversee, maintain, and develop internal corporate controls, policies and procedures for payroll, A/P, A/R, income property cash flows and investment/partner groups reporting.
  • Oversee and mentor a small team of project accountants who are collectively responsible for the preparation of the working papers and financial statements of the corporate entity, project societies and coops, where applicable, directing their work priorities, evaluating their performance and creating training and learning plans.
  • Produce accurate and timely financial reports under the CA GAAP & ASPE, in depth revenue and cost analyses, overseeing tax compliance, budgeting, cash flows and payroll.
  • Timely preparation of the annual budget for approval by the various boards of directors, government, housing coop and nonprofit partners, as well as quarterly budget to actual analysis.
  • Work with the housing operations team on budget preparation for each property, providing support in project development, property management


and corporate, to ensure the efficient and accurate financial planning and reporting of the CLT's operations, including housing co-ops where CLT is responsible for property management.


  • Review monthly payroll registers and assist with the preparation of the annual bonuses and monthly RRSP contributions for eligible employees.
  • Work with the Director of Finance to identify all corporate cash flow requirements, determine cash sources and maintain an ongoing status of all existing and potential loans.
  • Review agreements, identifying accounting, tax, reporting, cash flow and insurance requirements.
  • Coordinate all audit activities for 15 plus audits and review engagements of individual CLT projects.
  • Prepare the financial packages and ensure accuracy and timely delivery to internal and external stakeholders while verifying reporting requirements are consistently met.
  • Research and identify accounting issues taking corrective action to minimize the opportunity for problems to occur.
  • Work with the development team during the whole development lifecycle starting from the land acquisition until the Coop registration.
  • Communicate with external clients and lenders to manage funding and draw requests and provide timely responses to questions and inquiries.
  • Track cost vs budget during predevelopment, development, and construction stages.
  • Ensure correct and timely construction accounts receivable tracking, management, and reporting.
  • Work with appraisers and bankers to provide support for obtaining loans and refinancing, as required.
  • Work with the development and construction teams to update and review anticipated costs.
  • Manage all annual tax returns and reconcile all required schedules.
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with established best practices.
  • Notify and report to senior management concerning any trends that are critical to the organization's financial performance.

Education and Experience:

  • University Degree in Finance
  • Certified Accountant (CPA, or equivalent) designation
  • 5+ years of progressive professional accounting experience, experience in construction and real estate development industries is desirable.
  • Strong Budgeting skills

WORKING REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel is required in the lower mainland.
  • If required, the ability to work outside of this role's regularly scheduled workweek (i.e. statutory holidays and evenings.)
