The Opportunity:


This highly influential leadership position will be responsible for the Retail Investments Inside Sales organization along with our hybrid external wholesalers, with a team that includes 4 Senior Insides Sales Directors, 37 Business Development Managers and up to 8 District Vice Presidents.


The Inside Sales organization contributes in every step of the sales cycle, from territory planning, communication strategies and execution, territory level event support, prospecting, proposal building, and closing the sale.

The hybrid wholesaling roles at Manulife are senior roles that own the entire Sales cycle for their territory, operating virtually 60 % to 70% of their time and virtually the remainder.

Given the significant scope of this leadership position we are looking for someone who can lead a high-performing team by establishing a cohesive vision, setting clear job expectations and driving business outcomes from a group with a high level of engagement.


Reporting to the Head of Sales this senior leader will have the opportunity to provide consulting and strategic support and services in a variety of projects with the objective of driving sales into our mutual fund, ETF, SMA, segregated fund, and alternative asset platforms.

The Head of Business Development will work closely with the Regional Vice Presidents nationally to help develop strategies and lead initiatives that maximize the effectiveness of the team

Key Accountabilities:

Leadership

  • Leadership of the Inside Sales organization: team of 4 Senior Inside Sales Directors and 37 Business Development Managers.
  • Leadership and coaching of 8 District Vice Presidents (DVPs) that are located across the country, who spend their time split both on the road and operating virtually. This will require spending time coaching and participating in advisor meetings.
  • Responsible for all staffing related functions and responsibilities, along with structure, strategy, and future direction of this growing aspect of the Sales organization.
  • Member of the Wealth Sales Leadership team helping to establish overall direction for the entire Sales organization
  • Represent Head of Wealth Sales in all aspects of the business as required (Finance, Communications, Product, Marketing, Compliance and Professional Services.
  • Establish and manage processes, practices and standards within Wealth Sales.
  • Oversight of incentive programs.
  • Data driven mentality and measurement of success to help drive a culture of accountability and ownership.
  • Developing strong industry networks, supporting recruiting efforts and developing top talent are key aspects of the position.

Establishing Strategic Direction

  • Working with senior leaders across the business along with our Investment Sales partners at John Hancock to establish strategic direction and develop plans to help grow the business and retain assets.
  • Ensure that the vision and goals of the Head of Wealth Sales are properly implemented and completed within the guidelines and expectations as defined.
  • Working with our technology partners to create new ways of working for the Inside Sales Organization with the goal of improving overall team efficiency and success.
  • Highlight challenges, issues and potential solutions and bring them the attention of the management team.
  • Help Build out and support Best Practices.
  • Lead the evolution of the Inside Sales Strategy.
  • Champion changes to sales tools (ie Sales Force).
  • Partner with the Head of Sales to create, implement and own the rolling "3 to 5 Year Distribution Strategy"

Financial & Budget Planning

  • Work with Finance, Head of Sales and Inside Sales Managers to monitor and set budgets
  • Working with the WAM Compensation Team along with the Head of Sales to set compensation plans for the Inside Sales organization
  • Identify reporting and information gaps required by Wealth Sales

Job Requirements (Knowledge/Skills/Competencies):

  • A minimum of five years of investment sales leadership experience
  • Post secondary education in Finance, Business, Economics or a related field is required
  • Industry designations such as CFA, CIM, CFP, MBA are assets
  • Excellent product knowledge and strong sales tool knowledge
  • Solid understanding of the Retail Investments industry including advisor practices and needs
