Applications are invited for the Laboratory Assistant III in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

This position is part of a Laboratory Assistant III team which provides support for a number of laboratory areas in Pathology.

The position involves work at multiple sites and requires employees to work all shifts (24/7). The laboratory areas include Histology, Cytology, Specimen Receiving and Autopsy Services. Duties may include sample accessioning, specimen preparation, tissue handling (storage and discard), archiving of Pathology materials, restoration of bodies in the Autopsy suite, and other supportive tasks as required

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay:
$27.57 per hour - $31.79 per hour

Hours of Work:
Up to 45 hours bi-weekly

Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PaLM) is a joint venture of LHSC and St.

Qualifications:

  • Meet the educational requirements specified by the Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (MLPAO formerly OSMT) or the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) for Medical Laboratory Assistant
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate from Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (MLPAO formerly OSMT) or Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
  • Minimum of 6 months previous laboratory experience preferred
  • Pathology SRA, cytology, histology and Autopsy laboratory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated accuracy and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop and maintain effective relationships within healthcare teams
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step)
  • Completed COVID vaccine series (two vaccines).
