Located within the Division of Student Affairs, Assessment and Exam Services (AES) administers VIU's accommodated exam service and pre-program admission assessments. Our mission is to provide a technologically advanced, secure, and welcoming testing environment that supports test taker success and opens pathways to academic and career opportunities for the students we serve.

Duties:

Seeking incumbent(s) who are confident with technology supporting remote and on campus exams, committed to the highest standard of service to students to join our Assessment and Exam Services (AES) team. We are looking for an independent professional with the ability to multi-task and calmly trouble-shoot exam related services. Located within the Division of Student Affairs (Student Services), Assessment and Exam Services operates an exam centre for accommodated exams for VIU students with disabilities, pre-program assessments, and professional exam invigilation services. Our mission is to provide a secure and welcoming testing environment that supports test taker success and opens pathways to academic and career opportunities for the students we serve. The Invigilator supports a culture of inclusion and student-centered services, key elements of institutional success. This role requires calm, professional and empathetic response to a wide variety of heightened situations, including student distress, exam irregularities, and conduct breaches.

Exam proctoring for external institutions as well as for VIU students with exam accommodations requiring assistive technology set up and support. This role includes in person invigilation of paper-based exams and program assessments. Ensure facilities are prepared (including setting up computers and other technology) and exam security is maintained throughout an exam sitting. Confirm identity of those taking the assessment/exam; take attendance; respond to questions. Organize and file various materials including exam materials, special equipment, and other supplies. This role includes providing front-line reception coverage, remote exam proctoring via Zoom, and serving as a human scribe or reader for students with exam accommodations as required.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 diploma, or equivalent. Minimum one year recent relevant experience in a post-secondary environment. Ability to accurately handle large volumes of time-sensitive, detailed information. Ability to manage deadlines, adhere to guidelines, problem solve independently, and adapt to changing priorities. Senior-level proficiency with the MS Office with emphasis on Word, Excel and Outlook. Excellent verbal English communication skills. Ability to work independently to deliver exams/assessments as per required guidelines and instructions.

Technical competency to troubleshoot basic computer issues.

Professionalism under pressure and a respectful, collaborative attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with adult learners with disabilities, familiarity with assistive software such as Kurzweil, Dragon, and Read and Write. Extensive relevant experience with online and paper-based exam invigilation.
