Position Description:


We are seeking a self-motivated individual to grow and foster community engagement in support of Science World's mission through producing unique and memorable public events, activations, and partnerships.

- and long-term goals to assist Science World in delivering and scaling STEAM literacy across the province.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works in collaboration with the Director to identify, plan, and execute a range of public programming and engagement events and activities throughout the year that bring to life a learning environment of curiosity and collaboration
  • Leads the planning, programming, and execution of the Science World's signature Girls and STEAM program, including the annual inperson Summit, which will require interdepartmental collaboration and planning
  • Provides leadership and coaching to the Public Programs and Engagement team and contractors, and more general leadership to other staff and volunteers when working collaboratively on projects or events
  • Manages event and activity programming, logistics, and delivery, both inperson and online, including community collaborations, gallery activations, speaker and panelpresentations, and more
  • Works collaboratively with Facility and Event Rentals on events logistics where key partners are hosting events or activities within the Science World building
  • Demonstrates best practices in partnership development including execution of effective discovery meetings, and the development of comprehensive proposals designed to address the objectives of both the prospect and Science World
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Brand to finalize and distribute materials across channels, including curating public programming materials for the Science World newsletters and coordinating interviews with partner activations
  • Liaises with speakers and partners to curate and edit content that will be used by Brand and Marketing in the creation of promotional materials
  • Develops a multifaceted strategy for building a public programming and engagement subscription list and promotional channels for promoting Science World events and activities to identified audiences
  • Acts as the curator for the Community Gallery, working closely with the Visitor Experience Management team on staff training of the Science Facilitators so that they can answer questions and speak to guests about the contents of this gallery. Supporting the Exhibit Designers, the Curator will be responsible for the ongoing operations of the gallery and will work with the Director to identify opportunities to develop content activations in collaboration with the community
  • Develops, monitors, and manages budgets related to events and activations, including gathering and negotiating quotes, tracking invoices, and submitting payment requests to Finance with all necessary info and documentation
  • Operates within the philosophy, culture, and values of Science World
  • Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 5+ years of proven experience in events, public programming, and/or project management
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners, with proven interpersonal savvy and a keen sense of diplomacy
  • Ability to successfully guide partnerships and execute on agreements
  • Ability to respond, react, and potentially shift focus when new, timesensitive opportunities arise
  • Strong attention to detail; superb organizational, and problemsolving skills
  • Strong ability to work independently and to identify and takeaction to help where required, and to organize and prioritize tasks in a way that is most helpful to the Public Programs and Engagement team and the larger goals of the organization
  • Strong work ethic and solutionbased approach
  • Resourceful and organized; able to manage competing priorities, complex situations, and deadlines
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate various event planning activities, training, and meetings
