The Ottawa Food Bank is a highly respected social service agency with a mission to collect and distribute food to its network of agency partners, who in turn serve clients in need throughout the city.

Established in 1984 to fight community hunger, the Ottawa Food Bank has been serving the community's most vulnerable people with respect and dignity, providing healthy, accessible, and sustainable food for all.

We are currently recruiting a
Community Development Assistant to join our team.

PARTNERSHIP WITH STUDENT SUMMER JOBS
The Ottawa Food Bank is partnering with Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) to provide quality opportunities for youth.

CSJ is a program under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help youth in Canada develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market.

The CSJ program objectives align with YESS and are as follows:

  • Provide quality work experiences for youth;
  • Respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers; and,
  • Provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills.


The program works with employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees, to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.

This is a fixed term opportunity, ending September 1, 2023.

***Reporting to the Manager, Programs and Planning, the Community Development Assistant will provide general administrative support within the Community Development portfolio, as well as supporting research and project-based initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide administrative support such as scheduling meetings and minutetaking for OFB's network steering team and action groups.
  • Support and participate in the development and execution of community engagement initiatives focused on including people with lived experience of food insecurity in decisionmaking processes (focus groups, surveys, participation in action groups, etc.)
  • Research and develop materials to support implementation of wraparound supports at OFB member agencies under the direction of the wraparound supports action group.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience and/or education in social services, community development, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency with MS 365 and Microsoft Office products (SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, etc.) and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL


The Community Development Assistant works on-site at the Ottawa Food Bank with the option to work remotely to perform certain tasks.

Duties are performed in an office environment. Occasional local travel may be required.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required; fluency in English and French is preferred. The ability to speak additional languages is an asset.

COMPENSATION
The rate for this position is $19.60 per hour, working a full-time, 35-hour work week.
