Child and Youth Care Team Supervisor

Clinical Director


The Child and Youth Care Team Supervisor position is responsible to help improve the physical, emotional and social development of vulnerable children and youth at the Be Brave Ranch.

This will be accomplished by providing supervision, regular routines and consistency, Ranch wide activities and therapeutic support through effective professional relationships that are engaging and transparent.


The Child and Youth Care Team Supervisor will supervise a maximum of 12 Child and Youth Workers and is responsible for providing opportunities that allow for professional growth and development.


The Child and Youth Care Team Supervisor will:

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure Child and Youth Care Workers under your supervision are complying with all policies, procedures and accreditation standards.
  • Complete monthly supervisions and support documentation for your team.
  • Address in the moment teachable moments and professional development learning opportunities with Child and Youth Care Workers.
  • Ensure the safety, security and emergency procedures for children and staff are implemented.
  • Address conflict and correcting behaviours immediately.
  • Provide meaningful and constructive feedback to their Child and Youth Care Workers and Management.
  • Attend all Case Conceptualization meetings.

Child Specific and Programming Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment at the Ranch through structure, consistency and predictability.
  • Implement strategies and participate in planned daily activities including clinical programming and organized recreational and social activities.
  • Develop positive therapeutic relationships with the children through processes which include positive role modeling and mentoring.
  • Connect with beneficial, affordable, and sustainable community resources for offsite excursions and donations.
  • Engage and help prevent children from the influence of negative behaviours.
  • Identify, promote and encourage appropriate behaviours through positive reinforcement.
  • Utilize natural and logical consequences when appropriate and needed for the best interest of the child.
  • Develop effective skills for the following through role modeling, mentoring, connecting with outside resources and individual specific programming:
  • Conflict resolution
  • Effective communication skills
  • Coping, problem solving and positive decision making
  • Hygiene and self-care
  • Social skills
  • Enhance emotional and self-well-being

Daily Routine Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the basic needs of the children are met which includes food, clothing and shelter.
  • Ensure that the educational needs are supported when required.
  • Ensure daily routines are performed and followed up by all Child and Youth Care Workers.
  • Transport children to appointments or activities when required.
  • Administer medication and first aid procedures as per policy and procedure of Little Warriors.
  • Maintain both the inside and the outside of the facility and notify the Executive Director immediately of any damages or concerns.
  • Identify any risks every shift and complete a visual hazard scan of the surroundings to proactively identify risks and address in a timely and safe manner.
  • Carry out meal planning and preparations as required and ensure cabin cleanliness every shift.
  • Maintain structure, consistency and effective followup on cabin rules, routines and appropriate therapeutic interventions as required.
  • Ensure child specific program development is promoted, utilized, encouraged and documented.

Case Management and Administration

  • Protect the privacy and information of all children.
  • Complete New Hire Orientations as directed.
  • Facilitate shift exchanges and effective communication through daily documentation including Google Docs, Daily Log Notes, Daily Checklists and daily paperwork expectations.
  • Attend all relevant staff meetings, supervisions, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Complete Weekly Hazardous Scan reports.
  • Ensure all shifts are staffed to ensure Little Warriors is meeting ratio obligations and all safety concerns.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in a clear and professional manner.
  • Maintain a good understanding of the Accreditation Standards and Little Warriors' Policy and Procedures.

Skills

  • Understanding and proven track record of trauma-informed care.
  • Possesses understanding of how to effectively work with children, youth, and families who have a trauma history.
  • An individual who possesses great communication.
  • Desire to support child and youth care counsellors to perform duties within a therapeutic milieu.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating safe and therapeutic relationships.
  • Constant self awareness and self monitoring.
  • Ability to collaboratively lead a team through and within an environment of change.
