The Opportunity:

WSP's Earth & Environment group is currently seeking an Environmental Scientist or Engineer in Training with 1-3 years experience to join our Site Assessment and Remediation (SAR) team in St. John's, Newfoundland. This role will involve field work, project coordination and report writing related to environmental site assessment, remediation and other projects across the Atlantic Region. Why choose WSP?

A day in the life:
  • Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, WSP's clients, employees, and the public;
  • Conducting fieldwork (i.e. groundwater monitoring, soil sampling through test pit excavations or borehole drilling, subcontractor supervision, and drilling investigations; etc.) and/or office assignments under the direction of more experienced scientists and technical employees
  • Overseeing remedial contractors including directing remedial excavations, waste tracking and progress reporting;
  • Maintaining excellent field notes as well as collecting and handling soil and groundwater samples;
  • Filing and managing all project-related field notes including some data entry and assistance with report preparation;
  • Preparing and coordinating project documentation, subcontractors, and equipment for field programs;
  • Performing and recording work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements.
We'd love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Bachelors Degree in Science, Environmental Engineering or similar;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize evolving requirements for multiple ongoing projects;
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines;
  • Willingness to work in the field (including remote work when necessary);
  • Strong interpersonal communication and key judgement skills;
  • Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace;
  • Strong teamwork skills;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Experience with environmental field work is considered an asset.
