About the Role


Reporting to the Guardian Managers, Guardians will participate in the field work within the K'ómoks territory, terrestrial, marine, freshwater related work.

Guardians serve as additional eyes and ears in the K'ómoks territory. Working with crew as a team, working in pairs. Dependability, demonstrate a strong work ethic.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to the Guardian Department, Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting the health of terrestrial and aquatic based resources within the K'ómoks Territory.

Strong communication skills and ability to interact with visitors and resource users in a polite and positive manner.

What you will be doing

  • Monitoring, Environmental, Archaeological
  • Data collection in the field
  • Patrols within K'omoks First Nation Lands
  • Working on boats, around the water within K'omoks First Nation territory
  • Some general labour work
  • Community based work, as food distribution, (fish, shellfish, large game, fowl)
  • Harvesting of Traditional use plants/medicinal/food
  • On the job training
  • Training

What you will need

  • Certificates SVOP, MED-A3, ROC-M Radio Ops, PREFERRED
  • Swiftwater Rescue, PREFERRED
  • Valid BC Driver's license, REQUIRED
  • Experience travelling throughout the territory, including by boat (specifically knowledge of navigating through rough terrain, turbulent waters)
  • Boating experience required (minimum 2 years)
  • Skipper experience is an asset
  • Mechanically inclined with inboard and outboard experience including minor repairs is an asset
  • Familiarity with resource management, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of local marine and terrestrial species and Fish identification

Salary is dependent on education and experience.
