Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE


Reporting to the Supervisor of Scheduling and Dispatch, and under the guidance and direction of the Transit Ability Coordinator, this position is responsible for assessing customers mobility for travel on YRT conventional, paratransit, on-demand transit, and subways.

Is also responsible for assisting with providing transit travel training to customers.

As needed, advocates for the needs of passengers and reports on systemic barriers that are in violation of applicable legislation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with scheduling individual and group travel facilitation, presentation, and information sessions for the public, including seniors, new immigrants, disabled persons, students, etc.
  • Assists with assessments and with determining if customers can functionally use conventional transit safely.
  • Provides customers with tools needed to successfully use transit.
  • Assists in determining what transit service customers are eligible for based on criteria.
  • Performs administrative tasks and prepares correspondence as required.
  • Assists in preparing reports.
  • Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
  • Responds to customer service inquiries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Branch or Department objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled on a fulltime basis in a postsecondary program with a coop, placement, or internship requirement, in Kinesiology, Occupational Therapist Assistant or Nursing or related field.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license, free of any demerit points and personal vehicle for business purposes
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and work outside in various weather conditions.
  • First Aid Certificate (can be obtained before start date).
  • Demonstrated ability in the Region's core competencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, and complete tasks accurately with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
