Summary:

As the Women & Family Empowerment Support Worker, you will support the delivery of several programs and services for refugees, immigrants women.



Responsibilities:

1.Assist in facilitation and development of the Women Empowerment Program

  • Facilitate the projects and activities development and implementation according to AIWCC
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule, work environment and work demands.
  • Ability to independently carry out relevant duties according to established protocol, procedures and policies
  • Knowledge and experience of similar program delivery in the context of immigrant and refugee culture and history
  • Strength based nonjudgmental approach with the clients.
  • Program reporting and evaluation
  • Maintain good standing of interaction with individuals, families and other agencies
  • Consults and liaises with community service agencies to maintain uptodate information on available resources and develop community relation
  • In addition to normal duties, from time to time there may be work assignments arising from special events, special projects, or overall program

2. You will be responsible for planning lessons and activities, adopting a creative approach, and encouraging and motivating students to learn.

Responsibilities:

  • Create lesson plans and assignments to students
  • Teach English language skills to nonnative speakers, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Adhere to all AIWCC policies and procedures;
  • Practice cultural awareness, sensitivity and respect in the workplace
  • Assess student progress through regular quizzes, tests, and assignments.
  • Establish a welcoming, safe and positive learning atmosphere for students
  • Teach class to immigrant and newcomer students emphasizing settlement issues and multicultural inclusion;
  • Create a positive learning environment that promotes active participation, critical thinking, and creativity.
  • Displaying excellent classroom management.
  • Create modules/lesson plans/assessments/teaching materials
  • Instruct and assist students in language learning including digital literacy
  • Work amicably as a team sharing workspaces and participating in and contributing to materials exchange, staff meetings and professional development;
  • Attend professional development workshops and conferences to stay uptodate on the latest teaching methods and technologies.

initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of a Post-Secondary Diploma in a Education, Human Services or related field
  • 2+ years' teaching experience
  • Knowledge of ESL,ELL teaching methodology
  • Ability to speak a second language such as Somali, Tigrinya, Arabic, Pashto,
  • Strong English language proficiency
  • Understanding of issues impacting women and community resources available to support them
  • Experience working with newcomer/immigrant women
  • Ability to teach adult newcomer/immigrant learners and foundational learners
  • Superior selfdiscipline and organizational, project and time management skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and the ability to learn and work with internal database systems
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license, valid insurance, liability as well as a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Security Clearance Check, Child Welfare Record Check no more than 4 months old are conditions of hire.
