Are you a leader who balances a healthy, engaged team with excellent customer service? Corporate Procurement and Supply Services is looking for a Manager of Supplier Management who will support both of the following aspects of Supplier Management for the City of Edmonton:

  • Supplier enablement management (to support and enable the adoption of SAP Ariba Buying & Invoicing by City of Edmonton Suppliers, City of Edmonton Departments, and stakeholders)
  • Supplier Performance Management (SPM) with governance provided by the Supplier Management Office, providing guidance about the City's SPM program, as well as the facilitation of the Appeals process for City Suppliers


As a member of the Corporate Contract Management & Business Sustainment Leadership Team and operating within collective leadership accountability, the Manager, Supplier Management is focused on creating the conditions for success of the direction, priorities and strategic vision of the Corporate Contract Management & Business Sustainment Section within the Corporate Procurement and Supply Services Branch.


This role is accountable for ensuring that all business partners' priorities are aligned to ensure timely provision of supplier management and supplier performance management services according to the CPSS Branch's service levels.

The Manager, Supplier Management is a leader for their team, providing management and development for staff, support for continuous improvement opportunities, and ensuring adherence to all processes and activities required in order to provide a quality service that meets the expectations of business partners.


The outcomes of a high performing Supplier Management team, supported and led by the Manager, include:

  • Strong business partner relationship management to ensure an effective strategy for the SAP Ariba/Procure2Pay program through support and enablement, and supplier and business area compliance management activities through wave planning
  • Support and lead the process for supplier catalog and integrations within SAP Ariba
  • Timely supplier performance management (SPM) transactions that meet the needs of the CPSS Branch business partners and City of Edmonton suppliers
  • Quality Supplier Management (SAP Ariba/P2P program) and documentation that supports the City's audit and compliance processes and supports Branch quality assurance reporting and analytics functions
  • The improvement of Supplier Management and SPM processes and procedures to improve consistency and enhance customer experience (for both business partners and suppliers)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain strong working relationships with business area teams, and business partners such as Accounts Payable, SAP Support Team, City of Edmonton Suppliers, and SAP Ariba
  • Lead focal point for Supplier Management support and advice within the City of Edmonton
  • Identify and prioritize Supplier Management team needs and align resources required to meet the needs of the City
  • Stay current with training on Ariba Platform and understand the integration with the business processes, as well as connectivity with other Cityused systems, such as S4 Hanna, SAP ECC
  • Monitor Supplier Management practices within the City and ensure compliance is met for the City of Edmonton
  • Establish clear and defined lines of accountability within the section
  • Manage development and delivery of value from strategic supplier relationships to achieve goals and business requirements.
  • Act as primarily point of contact for suppliers and manage effective governance around same
  • Work across business areas using clear communication to drive integration and collaboration
  • Provide leadership to Supplier Management staff by ensuring staff have the right tools and information and ensure each team member understands their role and expectations are set for each person
  • Guides staff in establishing performance objectives; delegates and coaches staff to optimize performance and assesses performance
  • Additional related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related discipline, or equivalent
  • Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP), Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO), or equivalent is considered an asset
  • Minimum of 7 years diversified procurement and contract management experience in a centralized supply chain management environment performing contract management or supplier performance management, including a minimum (5) years progressively responsible experience in a leadership role within a large, complex unionized organization, preferably within the public sector
  • Experience in a unionized environment is required
  • Experience and knowledge of contract and supplier performance management, supplier management, and negotiations in the public sector
