TRIUMF's Mechanical Services group is responsible for designing, building, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting a large variety equipment in support of the production process.

Examples of the types of equipment include, nuclear air filtration, HVAC, pumps, compressors, purified water, safety critical devices, PLCs, and industrial automation devices.

The group also provides material rigging and craning, hazardous waste disposal, and completes continuous improvement initiatives. We are looking to hire two Mechanical Technicians to work in this group.

JOB OVERVIEW:


The Mechanical Technician is the go-to person within the group conducting Level 1 maintenance on equipment, rigging and handling materials, and assisting certified trades with preventative and corrective maintenance.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional development and to learn from engineers, red seal trades, and other professionals.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rigging for crane lifts.
  • Provide material handling and forklift operations.
  • Conduct standardized inspections and procedures.
  • Operate hand and power tools.
  • Conducting Level 1 maintenance (filter changes, inspections, cleaning, lubricating).
  • Assist skilled trades.
  • Complete service reports.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities such as labelling, shop organization, or new safety initiatives.
  • May be assigned to other groups or to assist other technicians / skilled trades for the completion of work.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience with mechanical systems (compressed air, cooling water, HVAC).
  • Familiarity with Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
  • Demonstratable positive, enthusiastic, and eagertolearn attitude.
  • Experience in an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:
The position requires the incumbent to be trained and designated as a
TRIUMF NEW. Training will be provided.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrable mechanical aptitude.
  • 35 years experience in a similar role in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • Courses or certification in rigging, fall arrest, confined space, or forklift would be an asset.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
