Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Project Manager Chapter, Agile Excellence Domain, the Program Director will lead large, key Information Technology (IT) initiatives spanning both Technology and Business within the Agile Excellence Domain. The Program Director will provide management of complex, multi-stream initiatives combining multiple types of delivery methodologies including Agile, waterfall, and hybrid. The individual will have a demonstrated track record of working effectively within a shared services environment (matrix model), have practical hands-on experience leading a variety of initiatives spanning multiple stakeholders, teams and lines of businesses and has strong relationship management skill. The successful candidate will work closely with Product Owners, Project Managers, Scrum Leads, and Business and IT leaders and will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the program objectives and outcomes.

What you will do:
  1. Accountable for the successful delivery of key strategic initiatives from inception to closure leveraging best practices and standards as set out by Sun Life's Enterprise Operating Guidelines and SDLC practices
  2. Establish appropriate program level governance, reporting, monitoring and tracking to ensure visibility on all deliverables including business and IT across teams / Agile squads / areas responsible for delivering key components
  3. Develop and manage the end-to-end integrated program plan across all workstreams, incorporating hybrid and/or Agile teams, identifying and managing dependencies with a focus on business outcomes
  4. Manage and track the program budget, including all internal and external costs
  5. Responsible for all formal risk assessments (business, and technical including legal, risk, security and compliance)
  6. Responsible for the ongoing management of the identified risks including recommendations on mitigation plans
  7. Develop and oversee the operational readiness and change management strategy that includes all impacted areas including customers/advisors/sponsors such as operational, ongoing support, communication, rollout, training, etc.
  8. Support and develop material and reporting for various program forums
  9. Partner closely with and maintain regular touchpoints with key stakeholders (Operations, Legal, Risk, Marketing, Training, etc.) to communicate progress including the financial health of the program, along with any issues or risks
  10. Coordinate across multiple Product Owners, Project Managers, Scrum Masters and Technical Leads across the program to form a single program view
  11. Coach, develop and oversee a group of project managers who are individually responsible for planning, executing, tracking and reporting under the program umbrella
  12. Manage external relationship with vendors/consultants as required
  13. Be the primary escalation point for the team and resolve impediments as they arise
  14. Have a continuous improvement mindset to drive optimization as opportunities arise
What you need to succeed:

7 – 10 years of progressive experience with information technology initiatives project management. Experience working in a matrix organization that combines both Agile and waterfall methodologies. 5+ years of experience leading extremely large, complex multi-million dollar programs with multiple work streams, and multiple Agile squads. 3 or more years of experience with Agile delivery leadership across multiple Agile squads and the co-ordination of Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Technical Leads in a scaled Agile environment. Experience with QIP is an asset. Experience in the insurance or financial services industry with an understanding of operational management practices and objectives including accountabilities, approaches to problem solving, industry trends, and best practices. Individual insurance experience is required. Strong change management skills across multiple complexities within a line of business and interdependent lines of business. Strong relationship management skills and ability to foster internal relationships with leaders across the program, various Business Groups across Sun Life. Demonstrated ability and confidence to make recommendations to senior management and influence business decisions based on thorough analysis. Excellent communication and presentation skills, excelling at presenting to senior executives, while communicating effectively at the Agile squad level. Ability to handle conflicting priorities and meet stringent deadlines. Be a self-starter and capable of motivating/inspiring a team to meet their objectives. University degree preferred with emphasis on relevant areas of work and/or professional designation with over 10 years of experience. PMP or PgMP Certification and relevant Agile certifications would be a strong asset.
