Job Purpose:


Contributes to the overall success of the Product Control / Commodities and Currencies function in Canada and globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives.

Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Product Control, Commodities and Currencies, the incumbent is primarily responsible for the daily/monthly accounting, balancing and reconciliation for the Global Foreign Exchange and Precious Metals business, providing information for daily P&L and risk attribution reporting and for Internal and External Audit.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing processes and controls related to daily Commodities and Currencies revenue reporting, including P&L commentary in accordance with the Product Control framework.

The individual will interact with several functional areas within and outside of Product Control.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Ensures that the accounts and financial records of Commodities and Currencies businesses are being maintained according to International Financial Reporting Standards, policies and procedures set by Scotiabank Executive Offices and the local regulators.
  • Manage, review, and control the functions of the Product Control group to provide quality financial management information to the business line, including accurate daily/weekly/monthly/yearly portfolio and consolidated level P&L and monthly balance sheet reporting
  • Oversee the preparation of actual and risk based attributions by portfolio to explain and control the daily P&L reporting, investigating and reconciling results with front office estimates.
  • Calculate required valuation reserves and perform independent price verification on a portfolio of derivative and cash products
  • Provide ongoing management, assistance guidance and counsel to employees to optimize staff performance, teamwork and morale, including setting goals, performance expectations and ongoing performance feedback, implementing ongoing training and crosstraining programs and enforcing policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daytoday activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of daytoday business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

  • Solid understanding of accounting, the concepts of marktomarket accounting and risk based P&L attribution
  • Thorough knowledge of derivative, lending and inventory products and the risks involved
