Tasks:

  • Instruct apprentices
  • Measure and cut insulating materials to required shape and dimensions using hand and power tools
  • Fit insulation around obstructions and between joists and studs
  • Install vapour barriers and fireretardant materials
  • Supervise other workers
  • Assemble, erect and dismantle scaffolding, rigging and hoisting equipment
  • Remove asbestos, ceramic fibres, lead and mould and ureaformaldehyde insulation materials from buildings
  • Mix plaster ingredients to desired consistency
  • Measure, cut, fit and install drywall sheets
  • Install vapour barriers and thermal and sound insulation
  • Apply, level and smooth coats of plaster
  • Leading/instructing individuals
  • Install metal stud framing and furring for interior drywall or plaster walls and ceilings, using hand and power tools
  • Install acoustic tile, hangers for suspended ceilings and metal studs for composition wallboard or lath

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:

  • Insulator Trade Certification
  • Insulator Red Seal Certificate
  • Driver's License
  • Insulator (heat and frost) Trade Certification

Surface preparation experience:

  • Drywall taping/patching

Area of specialization:

  • Spraying and blowing insulation
  • Fire stopping and fireproofing
  • Acoustical insulation

Security and safety:

  • Driver's validity licence check

Transportation/travel information:

  • Valid driver's licence

Work conditions and physical capabilities:

  • Physically demanding
  • Handling heavy loads
  • Standing for extended periods

Own tools/equipment:
