Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development is seeking a highly motivated individual interested in filling the role of Fire Ranger/Radio Operator based out of Lac du Bonnet.

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Must be willing to and able to travel for throughout province and work away for long periods of time
• Must be willing and able to work weekends and overtime
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position such as lifting, carrying and loading firefighting equipment, and working in adverse weather conditions.
• Must be willing and able to be deployed provincially, interprovincially, or internationally as/when required.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Experience working in the outdoors doing manual labour
• Ability to work effectively in high stress situations.
• Experience in the use and/or maintenance of small engine equipment, camping equipment, and power tools.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Strong written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and organize changing workload and demands.

Desired:

• Experience in the use and operation of a twoway radio system.
• Experience and/or knowledge of Fire/Command Centre operations

Duties:

Under the direction of the Fire Operations Manager, Regional Duty Officer, or designate, the incumbent is responsible for variety of duties including:

• Operating radio equipment to provide and effective communications system for the Eastern Region Fire Operations Centre.
• Provide support for the Fire Operations Clerk by updating situation boards (weather information, district alert status, fire action)
• Collection of weather data, district operating plan via telephone, facsimile and computer.
• Repair and maintain fire equipment as set out in the Equipment Standards Manual.
• Receive and ship equipment as per Regional Guidelines.
• Assist the Regional Fire Ranger with duties as assigned in the Regional Fire Equipment Cache.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
