This is accomplished across four management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient and community based programs and services including mental health and addictions, primary health, public health, and continuing care.


The Site Specialty Lead Cobequid Emergency Department is appointed by the Central Zone Medical Executive Director and is accountable to the Zone Site Medical Lead, Cobequid Community Health Centre and Department Head of Emergency Medicine Central Zone, Nova Scotia Health for any Medical Staff practice-related matters arising from the operation of the service at the CCHC.

The Lead is also responsible for working collaboratively with the Zone Head and Zone Medical Executive Director for the advancement of larger program strategies.


Mandate:


The Site Specialty Lead will provide strategic leadership as well as oversight of clinical care for the Emergency Medicine needs at the Cobequid Community Health Centre.

The position is a Central Zone Leadership position within the Central Zone Emergency Service Council (CZESC).

The role will involve an administrative component which will include working in a co-leadership structure and ensures that a high standard of patient care is maintained by the medical and non-medical staff of the Emergency Department at the CCHC, in accordance with the Medical Staff By-laws, the Rules and Regulations, and applicable licensing and accreditation standards.


Accountabilities:


Accountable to the Zone Site Medical Lead for the Cobequid Community Health Centre and the Nova Scotia Health Chief, Central Zone Network of Emergency Departments relating to the organization, and implementation of emergency medical services in accordance with organizational policies, standards and guidelines/protocols.


Eligibility:

  • Must be FRCP, CFPC-EM or ABEM qualified
  • Must hold active staff privileges in the Central Zone Department of Emergency Medicine and have 75% of their clinical practice at the Cobequid Community Health Centre.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership experience and excellent communication skills
  • Will undergo an annual performance review conducted by the Department Head and Zone Medical Executive Director
  • Will maintain his/her clinical activity as well as her/his commitment to support teaching and research.
