We are currently seeking a
Capital Markets Regulatory Lawyer for a large, well-established, banking institution.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead attorney and project manager for internal audits to identify and resolve any gaps in the institution's capital markets operations.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review and gap analysis with a particular emphasis on tax law and Bank Act compliance. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to draft and revise bank policies and procedures in accordance with evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource for internal teams, offering legal counsel and compliance training when necessary.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and proactively provide advice on emerging regulatory trends affecting the Canadian banking sector.

Minimum Qualifications:

years of regulatory experience in financial services, preferably within a Big 5 institution.

  • General knowledge of tax implications related to capital markets transactions.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with a proven ability to assess complex regulatory issues, identify potential risks, and develop effective strategies for compliance and risk mitigation in the dynamic Canadian banking regulatory environment.
  • Ability to establish and manage strong relationships with team members, internal stakeholders, and internal and external counsel.
  • Demonstrated expertise in overseeing audits or investigations within the financial services industry, including the capacity to manage timelines and project progress, provide comprehensive training and guidance to team members, and deliver valuable, detailed updates, advice, and recommendations.
