Position Summary


Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Finance and Financial Controller, the incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of functions by performing the following key activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and ensure payroll is processed on a biweekly basis and employees are being enumerated according to their annual salaries.
  • Ensure that proper statutory and voluntary deductions are being made and paid on a biweekly basis.
  • Ensure that the receiver general for Canada is paid on biweekly basis for employees
  • CPP Taxes, and EI.
  • Reverse all invoices and cheques once they have been cancelled or voided.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations for all accounts.
  • Updates group insurance deductions on a monthly basis.
  • Include overtime hours for employee's payroll on a biweekly basis once their overtime hours have been authorized.
  • Produce and distribute employee record of employment (ROE) within 5 (five) working days after employees have resigned, laid off or terminated from employment.
  • Respond to Human Resources documents related to salary adjustments, salary deductions, etc.
  • Maintain a close working liaison with the Director of Finance to keep one another informed and current as to financial matters and concerns.
  • Respond to staff enquires related to payroll.
  • Maintain an accurate up to date filing of all staff payroll transactions and documents.
  • Participates in regular supervision with Supervisor, including an annual performance review.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Participates in appropriate staff development opportunities and engage in professional development activities that relate directly to job performance.
  • Represents the organization both formally and informally in a professional manner and adheres to standards of professional conduct consistent with mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Process all the above tasks in the context of contributing to positive moral and relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a recognized Accounting/ Business Administration program.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer accounting packages using Sage, Accpac General Ledger, Accpac Accounts Payable, Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent crosscultural skills to work in a First Nations environment;
  • Fluency in a First Nations Language is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively as a part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Adhere to AMC policies and procedures with specific attention to attendance, and professional ethics.
  • Work flexible hours and travel upon request.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check, and Clear Child Abuse Checks.
