Role Summary


Working in collaboration with WorkBC Employment Services team members as appropriate, the Job Search & Retention Specialist delivers Case-Managed Job Search and Job Sustainment Services, through all three (3) service delivery channels, in support of the successful job search and attainment, and employment retention of the Client.

Additionally, the individual within this position will consistently monitor and practically support the Client's job search progress, including providing ongoing coaching and effective utilization of appropriate WorkBC Employment services, in order to increase the probability of the achievement of the employment outcomes and objectives required as part of the WorkBC Employment Services Program.


Key Responsibilities

Job Search
Within the foundation of continually working to actively maintain the engagement and buy-in of the Client, responsible for the development and execution of the Client's Job Search Plan and all activities therein, by:

  • Ensuring ongoing meaningful communication and practical collaboration with all WorkBC Employment Services team members in support of effective and successful individual Client job search and retention outcomes
  • Taking the time to understand the needs of the individual Client to ensure the Job Search Plan is built around appropriate activities that support the Clients goals. Activities include one to one coaching, Service Initiatives, Client Inclusion Group cohorts, workshops, and related.
  • Providing handson support with Job Board, job matching with MCES and Approved Sub-Contractor job leads, and online employment opportunities; up to and including job developmenttype service.
  • Providing individualized marketing to Employers based on organizational need; arranging interviews and other support as required, including the negotiating and modifying of terms of employment when necessary.
  • Based on an ongoing communication with the appropriate WorkBC Services Specialist, consistently monitoring the Client's job search progress; including the increased utilization of WorkBC services in order to improve the probability of Clients achieving a successful employment outcome.
  • Developing and executing Client Inclusion Group service initiatives with the WorkBC Employment Services Assistant Manager.
  • Effectively utilizing up to date labour market information and expertise in support of the successful and appropriate job search strategy of the Client.
  • Developing curriculum and facilitating workshops tailored to individual and group Client needs including Job Finding Clubs and/or similar peersupported activities as appropriate.
  • Maintaining up to date client information and progress (including Client rational) in ICM and MCES databases (i.e., ClientConnect), ensuring the current, complete and accurate documentation of all communications with participant, Ministry, and other relevant stakeholder.
  • Developing and maintaining a collaborative relationship and referral resource network with appropriate community resources and agencies.

Job Retention
Through the execution and development of a Job Retention Plan and the associated activities therein, for Clients receiving Case Management Services and Self-Serve Services, responsible for providing individualized support to Clients and Employers when the client requires on-the-job support and guidance to successfully maintain their employment or community attachment, by:

  • Proactively and in an informed manner working with both the Client and/or Employer to resolve any employment issues that may arise.
  • Providing information on, and/or arranging for onsite job accommodations as may be required by the Client to successfully carry out the tasks required within their employment situation, thus increasing their ability to retain consistent employment
  • Providing Employers with Job Coaching support to assist with a successful workplace orientation and job task instruction.
  • Continuing to build rapport and the Client relationship, working with any Client as required, who achieves employment, sustainable employment or community attachment in order to maintain the contact required to obtain Sustainable Employment Outcomes as required by the program.
  • Ensuring ongoing communication with the WorkBC Service Specialist regarding the Client's need for financial support during Job Search and Job Sustainment Services.
  • Understanding the individual and unique needs of the Client as it relates to Job Sustainment Services and how MCES can provide value to the Client in order that they remain connected WorkBC until the Sustainable Employment Outcome is achieved.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with Resource Centre Coordinators, Facilitators, Youth and Indig
