Part of the Taggart Group of Companies, Taggart Realty Management focuses on acquiring, developing and managing residential, office and commercial property.

Taggart Realty Management has a consistently large number of new projects being developed at one time, each at varying stages of the construction process.

The projects are focused in the Ottawa and Kingston marketplaces.

Work Description

Work DescriptionReporting to the Controller, this person will be responsible for leading budgeting, CAM/tenant reporting, and related process improvement, while maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders and supporting the Controller in maintaining relationships with other teams. The performance of duties requires an ability to manage priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet reporting deadlines.

Major Responsibilities:

Manager, FP&A

  • Lead the annual budgeting process across the residential, retail and office portfolio
  • Review the financial inputs prepared by stakeholders across the organization to ensure accuracy for the annual budgets
  • Analyze and identify variances and trends within the properties for improved performance
  • Ensure the cash flow projections are properly reflected in the annual budgets
  • Review the proper classification of revenues and expenses prepared by the Property Accountants
  • Prepare and calculate the annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) recoveries for the budget and the yearend statements
  • Review leases agreements to ensure yearend CAM charges are properly reflected in the yearend recoveries
  • Track and review accounting entries to ensure accuracy and completeness of capital repairs, amortization, interest charges and classification of expenses
  • Review and approve the CAM charges inputted in the accounting system for the following year, including setting up recurring accounting adjustments to reflect absorbed costs and vacancies
  • Review and approve finalized CAM recovery packages to provide to tenants
  • Act as the main contact for tenant inquiries relating to both budgeted and actual CAM charges
  • Support the finance team to ensure timely collections of CAM charges throughout the year
  • Improve the quality and efficiency of financial reports and seek opportunities to streamline analysis and processes
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal customers and work collaboratively to identify opportunities and mitigate risks
  • Support the Controller in maintaining strong relationships with the Leasing, Operations and Asset Management teams, to help ensure business activities and plans are properly reflected in the financial records, budgets, and forecasts
  • Participate in and support the continuous improvement of systems and processes, focused on the quality and transparency of financial results and forecasts, and to facilitate reporting throughout the organization
  • All other duties as required

Statement of Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience is required, with 3 years of management experience is an asset
  • CPA designation is considered is desired
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word), and in various financial software
  • Prior experience in the property management sector and experience with the Yardi software package would be considered an asset
  • Prior experience in Public Accounting would be considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong ability to analyze and problem solve
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and to challenge and improve current practices
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Experience in a multicompany environment would be considered an asset
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and approach situations in a diplomatic and professional manner
