Qualifications and Experience

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:Possession of, or coursework towards, a Master's Degree in Education or equivalent in educational administration and/or elementary curriculum;Experience as an educational leader, providing instructional leadership, supervision, mentorship and evaluation; Experience in assessing and responding to student needs in social /emotional domains, life skills, development, behavior support, threat assessment, and crisis intervention.

Experience working with First Nation students and communities is highly desirable and preferred.

Strong and effective leadership skills; demonstrated ability to motivate teachers and create a strong collaborative team;A philosophy of inclusive education and excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skill working with parents, staff members, consultants and related agencies;Eager to learn the Upper Tanana language and passionate to learn about and gain understanding of White River First Nation culture;Desire and passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, and the community as a wholeAbility to work collaboratively with White River First Nation Government, Educational Support Workers (ESW), community Elders, and families;Ability to implement restorative practice and positive behavioral interventions and supports;Ability to implement effective support systems to assist at-risk students (e.g., mentorship opportunities, study groups);A solid knowledge and understanding of the needs of both elementary and high school learners;Able to support and implement enhanced programming in the K12 curriculum;Solid communication and engagement skills, promoting community involvement in school-based activities, the use of the facilities and educational programming;Work with the community to create codes of conduct and define disciplinary policies and communicate procedures to students, staff parents and community;Communicate effectively with parents, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the student in the school;Keen to live, work, and participate as an active member of a rural community; andYukon Education requires its staff to have an awareness of and appreciation for the cultural diversity of our Territory.

Additional Information To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Relocation may be available.

In communities outside of Whitehorse, there may be affordable though modest rental accommodation (sometimes shared) provided by Yukon Housing Corporation.

Private accommodation is limited.

If not available, candidates will need to find their own private accommodation, with assistance where possible from the First Nation School Board.
