Position:
Media & Communications Coordinator


Role:

Effective communication is a core lever for CNA to fulfil its mandate.

Under the guidance of the Lead, Public Affairs, the Media & Communications Coordinator contributes to the development and implementation of CNA's communication strategies and plans, proposes, creates and writes digital content and supports media relations activities.

To have the greatest impact, the Media & Communications Coordinator undertakes the following:

  • Supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of CNA's overarching media and communications strategy that sets out clear goals, objectives, and targets to optimize CNA's interface with members, nursing stakeholders, health care stakeholders, governments, policy makers, advocacy partners, the media, and the public
  • Coordinating internal and external communications efforts to advance the nursing profession, especially by promoting awareness of the profession so that the roles and expertise of regulated nurses are understood, respected and optimized within the health system


The Media & Communications Coordinator works closely with staff at all levels across CNA to ensure coordinated priority-setting, consistency in messaging and timely distribution of information.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development and implementation of communications strategies with the objective of securing media coverage/interviews to promote various CNA activities
  • Develops and verifies media and stakeholders' lists
  • Working with the Lead, Public Affairs and the Communications Advisor/ Managing Editor, writes, edits and disseminates accurate, highimpact information to the media, including: media lines, media alerts, media advisories, media releases, backgrounders, fact sheets and articles for publication
  • Tracks media coverage, analyzes the effectiveness of PR campaigns and prepares reports on results
  • Supports the work of the membership team and Lead, Public Affairs by developing communications plans that result in effective, timely, consistent and integrated messages
  • Executes daytoday communications including social media and website updates that support CNA's business objectives
  • Monitors media on a daily basis for news of interest to internal staff as well as CNA members, and recommends to leadership when and what kind of action is needed
  • Administers daily media clipping service for CNA staff, stakeholders, members and the public
  • Manages the mediarelated content on the CNA website
  • Consults with CNA staff to identify and assess communications and public relations support needs across the organization
  • Researches and stays current about emerging trends, best practices and opportunities in the field of media relations and communications
  • Working with the Lead, Public Affairs, coordinates press conferences and editorial boards, responds to media inquiries and coordinates media interviews with CNA spokespersons
  • Engages appropriate CNA staff and other stakeholders in content development and identification
  • Working with the Lead, Public Affairs, writes or coordinates development of speeches and presentations to be delivered by CNA staff and spokespersons, as required
  • Contributes to enhancing the visibility of CNA and the nursing profession by developing and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders
