In this role, as an Arena Operator reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Facilities, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of recreation facilities in Kingston.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe and efficient operation of arena facilities.
  • Perform ice installation, removal, and maintenance following established procedures and health and safety practices.
  • Conduct arena maintenance, including repairs, monitoring refrigeration systems, and addressing public inquiries.
  • Provide excellent customer service, perform facility checks, and handle emergency fire equipment.
  • Complete tasks such as ice line painting, supply orders, turf maintenance, and assisting with special events.
  • Monitor and clean facilities regularly, perform winter maintenance duties, and report incidents/accidents.
  • Utilize tools and equipment for repairs, assist with marina operations, and participate in departmental activities.
  • Adhere to legislation and corporate policies, provide guidance to new operators, and perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications, Competencies

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in recreation facility operations.
  • Experience with ice maintenance equipment is an asset.
  • First Aid and Automated Electronic Defibrillator certification required.
  • Basic Arena Refrigeration course completion within six months of employment.
  • Valid Class 'G' driver's license with good driving record.
  • Demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

  • Job-related training completion.
  • Knowledge of MS Office.
  • Ability to operate ice re-surfacing equipment and other vehicles.
  • Self-motivated, strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, able to perform heavy lifting, and work rotating shifts.
  • Must pass criminal record check, including vulnerable sector.
