Conservation - Restoration & Regeneration Montréal, Quebec

Overview:

The bilingual Intern, Community Action supports the scientific monitoring of WWF-Canada's _Corridors_ program in peri-urban areas of Montreal. The Corridors program engages communities, municipalities and other land and rights-of-way holders to take action by restoring degraded habitat. The role contributes to WWF-Canada's habitat restoration goals under its Regenerate Canada strategic plan.

Responsibilities:


The Intern will conduct entomological and vegetation inventories under electrical rights-of-way in peri-urban areas of Montreal (eg: south shore municipalities, Laval) and project areas in southern Québec.

In collaboration with the WWF-Canada team, employees of different municipalities and other partners, the intern is responsible for:

  • Inputting information into an inventory protocol for pollinating insects, reptiles, amphibians and vegetation.
  • Visually observe and monitor sample devices, i.e. insects.
  • Application of the sweepnet sampling method.
  • Identify and implement various observation and sampling methods of the vegetation.
  • Identification of insects.
  • Data collection and compilation.
  • Report writing and documentation of techniques.
  • Responding to questions from community members while in the field.
  • Assist with gathering data for various research projects, including reptile and amphibians' surveys.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in French and English.
  • Actively enrolled or completed postsecondary education in a related discipline
    _OR_ 2+ years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to scientific rigor and experience with report writing.
  • Strong skills in the MS Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions for up to 6 hours at a time.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest in field, office, and lab work.
  • Photography skills are an asset.
  • Ability to communicate the goals of the Corridors to community members and inspire them to take action.
  • Good organizational skills that reflect an attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Be passionately committed to the mission and objectives of WWF-Canada and to its success in accomplishing these.

Other Information:

  • This is a fulltime contract position to October 31, 202
  • This role will require neardaily local travel to project locations in greater Montréal, occasional days at WWF-Canada's office or working from home.
  • Occaisional travel and field work to project locations in southern Québec may also be required.
  • Flexibility is required to adjust working hours based on project needs and meetings with partners
  • WWF-Canada will reimburse mileage based on its operational policies.
