Workplace Safety & Health Officer
Human Resource Services
The incumbent, working together with the current Workplace Safety & Health Officers, will continue the development and implementation of Winnipeg School Division's Safety & Health program in compliance with the Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health Act and Regulations and other related legislation.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Assisting in the investigation of safety and health issues throughout the Division;
Inspection of schools and buildings for compliance with safety regulations and policies;
Provision of training on various workplace safety & health topics;
Maintaining various programs including WHMIS, Asbestos Management, Lock-out, IAQ, Crawlspace/Confined Space, Hearing Conservation, Working Alone/Isolation, Committees;
Assessing and developing job hazard analysis and safe work procedures;
Resource for school administration and management team on Health and Safety program implementation.
Qualifications:
A Post Secondary diploma or degree specializing in a Safety & Health related discipline or education may be considered;
Five years experience in the Safety & Health field or similar;
Working in collaboration with management teams, labour groups, committees etc;
Excellent communication skills;
An ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Experience working with a diverse cultural population;
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point;
Knowledge of the current Workplace Safety & Health Act and Regulations;
Knowledge of construction related regulations, codes and best practice;
Knowledge of Building maintenance techniques, in particular HVAC systems;
Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or similar would be an asset.
