Bring your strong analytical skills and research expertise to the Negotiations and Reconciliation Division to conduct historical research and provide analytical and policy support related to land claims in Ontario.


The Ministry
The Ministry of Indigenous Affairs provides corporate Indigenous policy development, management support, negotiates and settles land claims.

It also manages the Province's relationships with First Nations, Indigenous organizations (including Métis, Native women, Inuit and off-reserve) and the federal government.

As the corporate lead on Indigenous affairs within the Ontario Government, it provides Indigenous policy development and relationship expertise. It coordinates cross-ministry Indigenous policy initiatives and multi-lateral relationship processes. It is also responsible for the Aboriginal Policy Framework and other corporate coordination activities.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Provide historical research and policy advice to the negotiation teams
  • Analyze and evaluate land claim submissions
  • Conduct and oversee research studies
  • Support the formulation of Ontario's negotiating positions and strategies

How do I qualify?:

Research and Analytical Skills:

You have:

  • Analytical and evaluative skills to assess the historical merits of land claim submissions and the policy approaches to land claim and land-related policies

Technical Knowledge:

You have:

  • Knowledge of the culture and history of Indigenous peoples in Ontario

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

You have:

  • Proven communication skills to articulate research concepts, findings and recommendations to diverse audiences
  • Ability to synthesize historical, legal and policy research into concise written reports and presentations
  • Interpersonal skills to elicit the cooperation and participation of stakeholders

Project Management, Planning and Coordination Skills:
You have:

  • Ability to plan and coordinate activities with internal and external parties and other stakeholders
  • Ability to monitor the quality and timeliness of work performed by external researches and other consultants
