Summary of Duties:


Reporting to the Superintendent of Public Works, this role is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the Lil'wat Nation Transfer Stations and the oversight of the Transfer Station Operators.


Key Deliverables and Expectations:

  • Supervise Transfer Station Operators
  • Assist the Superintendent of Public Works in creating and administrating the Transfer Station staff schedule
  • Assist in administrative management of the department: scheduling (staff and work), planning, and reporting, while ensuring the team has proper supplies and tools to complete their work.
  • Directs the daytoday work of the team, oversees job site, delegates tasks, manages priorities, and assigns and reassigns team members.
  • Assist the Superintendent of Public Works in hiring, training, and performance of the team.
  • Assist the Superintendent of Public Works in schedules and overseeing regular (monthly, seasonal, and annual) maintenance.
  • Assist in setting standards for customer service and responding to customer concerns and complaints. Will assist customers with sorting materials.
  • Regular communication, both written and verbal, with the Superintendent of Public Works, team, departments, contractors (including but not limited to Recycle BC, IZWTAG, GFL), curbside pickup program, and community members
  • Assist the Superintendent of Public Works with budgets and provide input into financial forecasting.
  • Takes a lead role in ensuring safety protocols are in place and are being followed properly, including daily morning meetings.
  • Oversees the entire operation of the transfer station including but not limited to:
  • Secure food waste and garbage management
  • Management of all bins and the proper separation of recycling and garbage.
  • Proper management of hazardous items.
  • Scheduling and recording of shipping/collection and disposal of recyclables, garbage, and hazardous materials.
  • Operating of the compactor bins, food waste transfer bins, cardboard bailers, and manual forklift.
  • Traffic and vehicle flow management and cleanliness (free of debris or clutter) or roadways.
  • Cleaning of bins and daily site cleanup. Maintains a clean and tidy facility.
  • Data management and required recordkeeping of recycling, garbage, and other waste.
  • Performs ongoing site maintenance and general duties.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes:

  • First Aid Level 1 Certificate an asset
  • Class 5 Driver's License an asset
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Training in solid waste management, including zero waste training, and recycling management and asset.
  • Previous experience with operating small equipment (i.e. manual forklift, compactor etc) and light hand tools.
  • Previous experience or understanding of hazardous material management.
  • Strong communication skills able to understand direction, able to clearly communicate tasks, able to educate and share knowledge with staff and customers.
  • Physically fit and mobile. Able to lift up to 50 lbs and be on feet all day. Able to conduct manual labor. Can work outside in variable conditions.
  • Proven ability to work in a busy, fastpaced environment and manages stress effectively.
  • Able to prioritize daily tasks and can manage multiple priorities at a time.
  • Strong attention to safety and following all safety protocols.
  • Team player willing to help out team members.
  • Cleared criminal record check.
