Based in central Ottawa, Ashbury College's Senior School is currently seeking a Learning Strategist to contribute to the circle of care for our Grade 9 – 12 students.

Reporting to the Director of Student Success and Wellness, and working in a collaborative student success team, you will support and advocate for students with identified learning exceptionalities. You will promote learning skills development for the whole student body as these lay the foundation for each student achieving their highest academic and personal potential. You are a confident educator, supporting teachers in differentiating their practice to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and interpreting psychoeducational reports; writing accommodation plans; regularly meeting with parents, teachers and others to ensure students are achieving to the best of their ability.
  • Tracking, monitoring, and documenting student progress, ensuring support plans are in place where required.
  • Providing academic learning support and social emotional learning skills to students in the Senior School.
  • Running after-school student support sessions for academic skill development.
  • Supporting the delivery of student information through learning support meetings.
  • Supporting the organization and invigilation of student accommodations through exam periods including IB exams, ministry exams, and the OSSLT.
  • Invigilation and support of students writing in the Learning Test Centre.
  • Working closely with the Director of Student Success and Wellness to ensure student needs are met.

You will also teach two classes – a combination of Learning Strategies/other courses depending on sections.

You are a passionate OCT certified educator, holding Special Education additional qualifications (working towards a Specialist) with at least 3 years of experience working with students with identified learning exceptionalities. You work well under pressure, are collaborative and team oriented, and confident in managing difficult conversations with a range of stakeholders. You are deadline oriented and well-organized with a firm understanding of Ministry requirements, processes and procedures as they apply to special education. You have a history of applying leading educational technology in the classroom in support of student needs. Your genuine care about the academic success and emotional well-being of every student you support is demonstrated through your history of commitment to inclusion and belonging.

The position is effective late August 2024.
