Position Details


Reporting to the Supervisor of Accessibility Services, the Staff Interpreting Coordinator is responsible for providing ASL English Interpretation as well as coordinating staff-related interpretation services in response to organizational interpreting needs.


The Staff Interpreting Coordinator will:

  • Manage requests and scheduling for interpreting services (American Sign Language and other languages) by balancing the needs across the organization
  • Provide interpreting services for meetings and presentations of various sizes across departments and the APSEA organizations
  • Ensures all preparation materials are provided and shared with interpreters
  • Organizes C.A.R.T services if required within a scheduling request

Requirements:

  • Graduate of a Sign Language interpreter training program is required.
  • A University Degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years work experience with ASL English Interpreting.
  • Preferred professional certifications from the following are desirable: CASLI
  • Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters, RID
  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Canadian Government Translation Bureau, Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), and/or other Interpreter Screenings.
  • Needs to be flexible in order to support various assignments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, paying close attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in working within a virtual environment; using Outlook, online database(s)/booking systems, and video conferencing platforms.
  • Ability to work both independently with mínimal supervision and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of regional sign language variations.
  • Access to a reliable mode of transportation is required, as occasional travel within the Atlantic Provinces may occur.
  • Work experience in an administration role is an asset.
  • Advocacy work and/or volunteer work within the community is an asset.
