Design Team Lead will be part of the team that supports design projects while interfacing with internal and external stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation's continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Initiate, prepare, and issue all required design documentation;
  • Prepare design, calculations, design bills of material and address design related field issues;
  • Provide advice and/or direction to Design Leads, review designs and sign Field Initiated Changes;
  • Perform field inspections, acceptance and approvals;
  • Prepare Design Change Packages such as Modifications, Temporary Modifications and Non-Identical Component Replacements;
  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems;
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to accept designs and changes;
  • Support engineering acceptance of modification turnovers;
  • Provide Engineering Change Control guidance, provide active support to field issues and Field Initiated Changes, and facilitate a positive outcome with EPC vendors;
  • Provides Design support to field activities;
  • Provide oversight roles on deliverables of Construction execution and closeouts;
  • Understand impacts on cost and schedule, and provide support to minimize impacts driving projects;
  • Gather input from stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure project requirements are captured and detailed in the project documents.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and/or I&C Engineering

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Design experience, preferably with nuclear industry or conventional sites;
  • Experience with OHSA, corporate safety requirements, contractor safety, and Work Protection Code;
  • Knowledge of nuclear power plant Electrical Design basis. Familiar with common engineering processes and practices, such as Work Management, Engineering Change Control, Action Tracking, and station reporting, Familiarity with OPG quality assurance program is an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize in short and medium term and to prepare and meet budget and schedule commitments;
  • Work coordination experience and leadership abilities;
  • Relevant work experience within design engineering and experience with Nuclear Codes and Standards;
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and must be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations;
  • Have a strong interest in fastpaced, challenging work environment where showing initiative and self motivation are assets; proven track record on delivering results;
  • Proven ability to work well with others;
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision;
  • Knowledge of OPG's ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) will be an asset;
  • Requires understanding of problem solving processes to evaluate and propose improvements to processes, equipment and systems or to unit safety, reliability and performance.
