You will contribute by:

The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions and does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities for this position:

  • Producing, lining up, and writing multi-market news broadcasts in collaboration with teams in various regions of Canada;
  • Working with a team of producers and editors in creating comprehensive, creative, entertaining and informative news content for our streaming service;
  • Assisting in determining the look, style, pace, lineup, and format of our streaming service based on established criteria and values;
  • Writing, editing, and producing packaged and live segments;
  • Participating in editorial discussions and meetings;
  • Working with fellow producers and writers to maintain Global News editorial standards;
  • Identifying creative opportunities to ensure our programming is dynamic, engaging, and intelligent;
  • Planning, selecting, and requesting production and resource elements;
  • Taking live programs to air in a control room environment in a calm and decisive manner, while problem solving, troubleshooting, and striving to improve the program;
  • Scripting elements of the broadcast;
  • Developing and maintaining a network of news contacts and sources;
  • Working with affiliates to coordinate news coverage and resources;
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in broadcast journalism or a related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in television broadcasting, with 2 years of experience as a TV News Producer;
  • Experience writing and producing local and national news content, including building a show rundown;
  • Excellent storytelling, news writing, and TV production skills;
  • Strong news sense and editorial judgment;
  • Strong understanding of national news;
  • Understanding of multimarket content workflows is an asset;
  • The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news;
  • Familiarity with news video editing is an asset;
  • Passionate about the future of news media;
  • Strong technical background considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of Grass Valley editing software is an asset;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to make independent decisions in high pressure situations;
  • Ability to handle the demands of multiple tasks while maintaining creativity in a highpressure, deadlineoriented environment;
  • Ability to work well in a team setting;
  • Exemplary leadership skills with an ability to mentor and coach others; high comfort level providing clear constructive feedback;
  • Selfstarter with a positive, cando attitude.
