Job Summary

The Investment Policy members are point persons in the Vancouver, London and Toronto office providing support to the CIO and the rest of the Investment Policy team by collecting information and project execution on performance, portfolio management and trading related items at RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM).

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a busy environment, and to meet deadlines consistently
  • Strong problem solving, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Efficient at time management and prioritization
  • Strong organizational skills, able to manage many projects at the same time under demanding deadline

Technical

  • Good knowledge of regional and local financial markets, economic disciplines and regulation.
  • In depth knowledge of investment industry products and services
  • Thorough familiarity with the group's investment policies, philosophy and strategies
  • Familiarity with the modern portfolio theory and with portfolio optimization techniques is a plus
  • Familiarity with Morningstar, eVestment, Bloomberg, Trade Order Management Systems is a plus
  • Familiarity with programing languages is a plus (SQL, R, PYTHON, MATLAB )

Areas of Focus & Analysis for the Investment Policy Team includes, but is not limited to:

  • Develop and test investment models to assist new investment solutions development process
  • Conduct back-testing of the proposed investment strategies to leverage investment expertise and risk management culture to the benefit of our clients
  • Assist in maintaining and improving portfolio risk monitoring practices within RBC GAM by enhancing the risk metrics available to entire organization
  • Assist in improving the characteristics of RBC GAM's numerous wrap solutions by recommending portfolio changes such as fund additions/removal, geographic asset mix changes or glide path adjustment
  • Work on process and data flow automation in the Investment Policy area
  • Participate in the investment policy statement development process for funds and segregated accounts
  • Assist in monitoring trading activity within RBC GAM, including best execution monitoring and exception reporting analysis
  • Act as a liaison with RBC GAM IT team for developing and/or implementing new applications
  • Engage in various front office projects

Please note: To be eligible for these student positions, you must either:

  • Be returning to school after the work term end-date; or
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating immediately after the work term), you must require the full work term as a mandatory component in order to graduate successfully.
