The role is responsible to the Team Leader of the Intensive Case Management (ICM) Team.

Substance Use Specialists are members of the Intensive Case Management (ICM) Team and work together to provide flexible, community based services that are designed to promote the stability, recovery and community reintegration of individuals who have a mental illness and use substances.

The Substance Use Specialist maintains a caseload and in collaboration with the transdisciplinary team coordinates and provides, in a compassionate and responsible manner, assessment, crises intervention and follow-up services to clients and identified supports as required.

The Substance Use Specialist performs all routine team responsibilities including lead responsibility for integrating concurrent treatment with the tasks of other team members.

The Substance Use Specialist will have knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of MI, CBT, EMDR, and Solutions focused therapy when working with the client.

Qualfications

  • Bachelor's degree (from an accredited educational institution) in an Allied Health, Behavioural or Social Science field relevant to the position plus two (2) years recent, related experience in a health setting working with complex care clients with concurrent disorders.

Communication:

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written, computer communication means.

Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision making skills using a systems approach.
