The Specialist, Wellness and Recovery works with, staff and faculty to manage complex cases related to employee injury, disability and illness, including those involving subrogation agreements with third party insurers and attendance management to facilitate the successful return-to-work of injured, disabled, and ill staff or faculty members.
The Specialist supports the development, implementation and ongoing management of the Health Promotion Program for SFU, leading in the design, delivery and execution of workshops and training sessions for leaders across the university to provide learning as it relates to stress management, workplace wellness and accommodation strategies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Health Science or a diploma in Disability Management and 5 years of experience in disability management, return to work, injury/illness prevention and rehabilitation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Excellent knowledge of best practices in the design and delivery of disability management program services and benefits.
- Excellent knowledge of issues related to disability management, returntowork, and accident/injury/illness prevention, and rehabilitation programs in a multiunion environment.
- Good knowledge of WorkSafeBC and related regulations, policies and practice directives.
- Advanced administrative and organizational skills.
- Advanced analytical reasoning and problemsolving skills.
- Advanced communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Advanced interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and mediation skills.
- Advanced negotiation and influential communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate empathy for ill or disabled employees and to listen and effectively converse with a respectful and supportive demeanor.
