Position Summary


The Childcare supervisor is responsible for the safety, administration, promotion, monitoring and evaluating of the childcare service for the LINC program; providing leadership, orientation, information and support to childcare staff and families participating in the childcare program.


Position Functions:

  • Supervises a program that contributes to the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and linguistic development of the children participating in the program
  • Maintains and submit service data as required by the Manager
  • Ensures appropriate handling of information, including daily logs
  • Keeps uptodate records of children's registration and health information
  • Supervises staff, volunteers, children and student placements
  • Identifies staffing needs and participates in hiring processes
  • Provides orientation and training to volunteers and staff
  • Identifies training and development needs of staff, and encourage and provide professional growth opportunities
  • Arranges, and confirms workshops and training for staff
  • Develops, implements and practices emergency evacuation procedures for childcare staff and children
  • Follows up on child absenteeism and registers new children
  • Advocates on client's behalf if appropriate
  • Refers clients to community resources
  • Provides services in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner, maintaining client confidentiality
  • Sensitizes staff and families in order to facilitate the children's participation in the program
  • Informs and orients families and staff to program related issues
  • Provides opportunities for parents to develop positive parenting skills through active participation in the program, modeling by staff, parent childcare interviews, parent workshops, parent information packages and handbooks
  • Mediates staff disputes
  • Facilitates conflict management in situations due to cultural misunderstandings or lack of accurate information; responding to and addressing/resolving conflicts, problems and concerns of parents

Qualifications:

  • 2year Community College ECE Diploma and Registered ECE
  • 3 years related experience
  • Knowledge of CMAS childcare policies and guidelines
  • Organization and time management skills, interpersonal, and communication skills to exchange and clarify information
  • Oral communication and listening skills for understanding and communicating effectively with diverse communities
  • Understand and respond to inquiries using tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with parents and students
  • Presentation skills to assist in delivering instruction
  • Mathematical ability required to manage a budget and petty cash
  • Sensitivity to individual needs of children in a multiethnic, multilingual program
  • Valid First Aid and CPR & Food Handlers certificates, Up to date immunization, T.B. test and medical certificates are required.

Salary & Benefits:
$ $26.36 per hour plus 4% vacation pay

(Note:

structured unpaid breaks include year-end, March and summer months).
