What You'll Be Doing

The Director, Application Development is a seasoned professional in leadership and coaching responsible for providing direct application delivery services and production support, undertaking new initiatives and base essential support on critical wires payments applications. The role will apply leadership skills and technical expertise to direct, manage and support large and critical applications on a day to day basis, leading internal projects or change initiatives. The role will also be connected with and aware of all industry payments changes and strategically evolve the CIBC wire payment platform to be flexible, scalable and adaptable to enable innovation and agility for evolving business needs.The role will manage relationships with operational partners, vendors, and internal partners, maintaining continuous business communications with them to proactively assess any disruption in application functioning. In addition, the role leads the ongoing operations of applications and infrastructure in production, adhering to operational standards, vendor governance and business requirements. The role drives innovation across areas of responsibility, applying expert interpersonal, communications, and problem-solving skills.

How You'll Succeed
  • Delivery and Roadmap: Deliver priority initiatives focused on improving the external/internal client experience in alignment with business priorities in support of partners in the business and technology across CIBC. Accountable for the evolution of the payment platform technology roadmap. The existing applications compose of both vendor software (Pega SI, Striim, Power BI) & CIBC custom software (Wires Operational Data Store, SWIFT API Platform) on various platforms (JBOSS, Linux, Oracle, MQ, Webservices, Feedhub, Azure based services, SWIFT Microgateway product). Facilitate smooth workflow of the department; ensure high standards and quality of technical work compliant with all CIBC technology standards and practices. Establish, monitor and adhere to budget for respective area. Accountable to ensure the compliance of the application portfolio with all Regulatory and CIBC Technology standards, including currency, capacity, recoverability, information security and architecture
  • Relationship Management: Establish and manage relationship with internal clients, stakeholders, vendors and/or senior and executive management; interface and maintain communications with business and Technology management. Monitor business and technology developments and provide on-time response and support.
  • Strong Leadership: Be a bold and authentic leader who is passionate about developing and coaching to bring out the best in people. Direct, motivate, develop and manage performance of the management team and key staff.
Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate experience in: successfully leading technology teams for 10 to 12 years, who has a defined responsibility, authority and discretion for decision-making or an advisory function by having a direct impact on the IT work of a major function, initiative or support function for the portfolio. Also, have a technical background, sufficient depth and breadth to be able to recognize and successfully exploit opportunities for effective development or usage of IT, and lead and guide fully experienced technical specialists and/or reporting managers.
  • A successful candidate must have a Relevant Technical knowledge with Production Support and Project Delivery background. The role applies leadership skills and technical expertise to direct, manage and support critical applications on a day-to-day basis, leading internal change initiatives in alignment with ongoing technological changes. The Director, Application Services manages relationships with internal partners, maintaining continuous business communications with them to proactively assess any disruption in application functioning. In addition, the role leads the ongoing operations of applications and infrastructure in production, adhering to operational standards, vendor governance and business requirements.
  • The role drives innovation across areas of responsibility, applying expert interpersonal, The role will have a team of 10 directs reports with a team size of ~20. Apart of directing and governing the day-to-day Operations and the stability of the applications, this position will also be accountable for the multi-year project of Pega Cloud Migration as well as working very closely with the EWM program for progressing with Operational Data Store Repository.
  • This role is critical to the success of these :Maintaining Operations of application portfolio (PSI, ODS, SAP etc.) Financial management for program & DOE costs Relationship Management with Stakeholders from both CIBC (e.g. EWM, GMO, EP, TO/DXC etc.) and external (DXC, Expertus. SWIFT, Pega, Evonsys, Striim etc.) Financial management for DOE and Project/Program costs Contract Management and governance involving vendors (Expertus, SWIFT, Pega, Evonsys, Striim) Centralized Government Management of GWPT (intakes, Attestations, Internal Processes etc.)
  • You have strong knowledge of: high-value payments ecosystem.
  • It's an asset if you have knowledge of Industry Payments Modernization and other regulatory and expertise in Canadian payments community.
  • It's an advantage if you have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field. Have the ability to make judgments regarding the ongoing viability of development phase or strategy based on ability to deliver upon agreed functionality within approved budget and schedule. It is an advantage if you have experience within an Agile environment.
