Our global financial services client is currently seeking an experienced Operational Risk Manager to join their growing team.

Role Overview:

The ideal candidate will be an Operational Risk professional with at least 7 years of experience, preferably within the first or second line of defense (1LoD or 2LoD). They should possess a deep understanding of Corporate Investment Banking (CIB) products and services, regulatory interactions, and the ability to lead and drive effective operational risk management changes.

Preferred Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of processes, risks, and controls within Middle Office/Back Office functions and related support areas such as IT, Finance, Risk, Compliance, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Budget Preparation and Results Analysis:
  • Prepare the budget for Support Functions.
  • Analyze and provide commentary on monthly results for Support Functions on a month-to-date (MTD) and year-to-date (YTD) basis.
  • Review monthly results and provide expense commentary for the monthly Finance Close meeting.
  • Conduct monthly individual meetings with Support Function Product Line leaders to review results, discuss trends, and provide updates to Management.
  • Serve as the key contact for all management reporting issues between Support Functions and Head Office.
  • Participate in ad-hoc analysis as needed.
  • Risk Management and Reporting:
  • Monitor and report on business-line/support function activities, including incident/loss identification, control indicators/metrics, risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs), and action plan monitoring.
  • Maintain relationships and effective communication with Operational Risk Representatives (ORR) in the 1LoD and other 2LoD functions in Risk (e.g., Market and Credit), Compliance, and 3LoD Audit.
  • Contribute to governance and reporting activities, such as the Internal Control Committee (ICC) and other relevant committees.
  • Regulatory Interaction:
  • Handle and manage interactions with regulators and internal assessment groups (IGE), assisting in the evaluation of key risk areas, control issues, and incidents.
  • Balance and manage requirements from both Head Office and local management, as well as Canadian or US regulators.
  • Operational Excellence:
  • Perform spot-checks and test controls, reporting results to the ICC or ePCC.
  • Lead and contribute to various committees to understand and challenge operational risks within the bank.
  • Enhance the quality and content of management information systems (MIS) through active participation in committee discussions.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in operational risk management.
  • Solid knowledge of CIB products, services, and functions.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Entrepreneurial and results-oriented team player who promotes collaboration and manages disagreements constructively.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills, comfortable leading discussions at all levels of the bank, including local management committees.
  • Ability to handle regulatory requests and manage periodic meetings with regulators.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all functions.
  • Strong sense of urgency, prioritization, and ability to demonstrate effective challenge where necessary.
  • Proficiency with PC tools and applications: MS Office, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Visual Basic preferred.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Power BI is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and French (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
